All-Americans

Congratulations!

In the last post we had pictures of the trophies and the medal stand. Here's what we were missing, pictures of the guys with their trophies on the medal stand.

In case you wanted to see those video recaps again that Andrew Stanfield put together, they are all right here:

Besides photos and interviews with coaches, Day 3 has interviews with the three All-Americans. Note to fans who were there - the guys really appreciated your support!

Thank you, Andrew, for sharing these videos!

NCAA's Session V - Medal Round

Saturday morning at the NCAA's is the "Medal Round" in which all of the places except the top two are determined.
Scott, RJ and Taylor all had matches. If you win the first, you land in the third/fourth place match. If you lose, you go to the fifth/sixth place match.
Persons wrestling for seventh/eighth had already been determined Friday night.
Scott and RJ lost their first match, Taylor won his by major decison.

NCAA's Session IV - Pena

RJ Pena's road to All_American ran through Georgi Ivanov
The third to reach All-American status was RJ Pena. As luck would have it, Scott and RJ were wrestling their matches on adjoining mats. Scott's started first, so he finished first.
Meanwhile, RJ had to win his match, and his opponent Georgi Ivanov of Boise State had managed to beat him in the finals of the Pac-12's.
RJ wasn't going to let that happen again!
Now Beaver Nation knew they had three All-Americans!
Congratulations, RJ!

NCAA's Session IV-Sakaguchi

Scott Sakaguchi upsets #3 seed Donald Vinson of Binghamton
By the time Friday evening and session IV roll around, it's make it or break it time. You're either in the Semi's, in which case you know, win or lose, that you've made All-American at some level, or you're scrabbling your way through the Consolation bracket one win at a time. You lose, you're done.

It's a roller coaster ride.

On the down side, we saw our two seniors, Michael Mangrum and Chad Hanke eliminated by

the competition.

On the up side, we found out  we had 3 All-Americans, Scott Sakaguchi andRJ Pena joined Taylor Meeks! Taylor had made it to the semi's in the morning

Beaver Nation in a pensive moment
What's a wrestling tournament without the fans? Oregon State was well represented by a proud Beaver Nation. Friday's t-shirt color was orange, and it could be seen from space!!
