Nationals Results and Other Wrestling News

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

A few things have popped up in the way of wrestling news that may grab your attention. There are results from the Freestyle and Greco Nationals in Las Vegas about a week or two ago, an update from the coaches, news on recruits, a new scoreboard for Gill, a party for John Horn among other things.

First up - congratulations to Josh Reyes, the Beavs' 149 lber, on his 8th place finish in the 70 kilo Senior Freestyle division! That's the best that any Beaver has been able to achieve lately - no small feat at the Senior level. Way to go, Josh!

At the Junior Nationals in Greco, Drake McKee wrestled his way to 6th place at 72 kilos. Congratulations, Drake!

Other Beavs wrestling in Vegas: Joey Palmer in the Senior division and Devan Turner, Bob Coleman, Myles Terry, Grant Willits and Mateo Olmos competing in the Junior Division of Freestyle. Check the update from the coaches for all the result data.

Speaking of the update from the coaches - it came out last week. If you have not yet read it, the note has been pasted down below my signature on this email.

Another recruit has been announced to add to the list of young men from the 2017-18 class. Thanks for Craig Scharer for sending the link to this story on Montana Sports.com about Riley Gurr. Welcome to OSU Wrestling, Riley!

Riley added his name to this list of recruits who have given their verbal commitment to the program (thanks again to Craig S for providing these names):
'17-'18 Verbals:
Logan Meek, Crater, OR 145
Brandon Kaylor, Bonney Lake, WA 113
Jackson McKinney, Skyview, WA, 197
Hayden Still, Lakewood, CO, 285
JJ Dixon, Tacoma, WA, 197
Riley Gurr, MT, 141

By the time next season's wrestling has begun, Gill's court will be sporting a new face. A new central scoreboard is to be added to Gill. Read the article at osubeavers.com for more details. Don't miss the link to the web cam. You can keep track of the progress on this new addition at Gill! The link is at the top of the OSU article as well as in this email.

Next - news from a father-son combo of former Beaver wrestlers, John & Casey Horn. Jana Iwasaki passed along this note from Casey:
On Saturday, June 9th at 5pm at the Illahe Hills Country Club (in Salem) we are hosting a Wrestling Reunion for my dad [John Horn]. We are trying to reach any/all of his former wrestlers, those who competed against him, coached alongside him, did anything wrestling-related with him. Please help us gather all those you can to help us celebrate him, his career and the impact he’s had on so many. Please pass on the word to others and come with memories to celebrate my dad’s wrestling career. If you or others are able to attend, please let me know so we have an accurate count. Thanks in advance for considering; I can’t put into words how much your and others’ attendance will mean to him.

Anyone interested in attending may contact Casey at:

Last, but not least, The Portland Tribune recently published an article on former Assistant Coach Kevin Roberts. If you are interested, the article may be found here.
Don't forget, the Coaches Update is below.

Go Beavs!
