Open Practice on Friday!

The wait is almost over! Tomorrow afternoon, September 25, Friday, 4 pm at the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room in the Sports Performance Center, the first Open Practice of the 2015-16 season will be held. It's your first chance to see who is on the team this year.

This will be an unofficial practice as the official start time for D1 Wrestling is a short time away in October, I believe. The coaches will be on hand, but the practice will be run by the team. It's still a great chance to get to know the new faces and say hello to some of the familiar faces. Don't forget to print out a roster and bring it along to help with the names and faces if you are not familiar with everyone.

Practice is held in the wrestling room, which is upstairs in the Sports Performance Center on campus, between Gill Coliseum and Reser Stadium. The entrance is on the east side, facing Gill, in the center of the building. The basketball practice rooms are next to the door. Inside you will find the stairs straight ahead, or an elevator to the right.

There is a limited amount of bleacher space in the far corner inside the room. You may also stand along the sidelines, off the mats, to watch. No matter where you are, please do be aware that the guys will be wrestling and occasionally will come flying off onto the sidelines!

Practice lasts approximately 1.5 hours, so if you are attending the football game, you will have plenty of time to get to your seats for that.

Parking is not usually a problem for wrestling meets. However, since there will be a football game, all of the parking lots around the stadium on campus will be pay lots with tailgaters starting to congregate. Sometimes there may be on street parking, but this will be Friday, a class day, so that may be limited as well.

Your next chance to see the team at work will be October 24, a Saturday, for Open Practice and the Parent and Fan Tailgate Party. More information about that closer to the date.

While you have your calendar out, mark down Wednesday, Nov 4, 7 pm in Gill Coliseum for the Intrasquad where team members battle for the starting positions. The team gets their first taste of real competition a few days later at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove, on Sunday, Nov 8. The first home action will be November 21, a Saturday. The team starts off the home season in a big way, hosting a tri-dual with Utah Valley and Rutgers. For the schedule, check here

Jennifer Gardner and Cory Perkins are staying as Board members while we also are picking up two new members, Jason Lara and Jake Whisenhunt. Welcome, Jason and Jake!

A special Thank You to former Board member Gary Westford, who assisted as Events Coordinator for years.
