Beavers Snare the Bears!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

On the road in Colorado, the Oregon State Beavers dusted themselves off after their loss to Michigan and faced down the Northern Colorado Bears, coming away with a 27-12 victory!

Seven of the Beavers won their individual matches: #3 Ronnie Bresser at 125, Kegan Calkins at 133, Grant Willits at 141 (winner by fall!), Hunter Willits at 157, Colt Doyle at 174, Jamarcus Grant at 197 and Amar Dhesi at Hwt (winner by tech fall, 22-7). Congratulations to all the match winners!

In case you missed it, there was a slight change in the line-up in the upper weights. Bob Coleman moved back from 197 to 184 and lost a close battle. Jamarcus Grant reappeared in the line-up, this time at 197 after filling in at heavyweight for the first part of the season. Jamarcus won with a takedown in Sudden Victory OverTime!

Even the three matches the Beavers lost were close. At 149 Josh Reyes had fought back to a tie. The match was about to go into Overtime with a score of 9-9, when in the closing seconds his opponent managed a takedown ending in a fall. at 165, Aaron Olmos kept his match close, losing by decision. Bob Coleman's 184 loss was also by decision.

For more of the details, check the news articles at:

A couple of tidbits gleaned from the articles and the comments made by on the video - at 141 Grant Willits and his opponent went to high school together, so were familiar with each other's wrestling style. Unfortunately, the video was having problems right in the middle of their wild scrambles! Jamarcus Grant is a transfer from UNC, so his match must have been a homecoming of sorts.

The Beavers now travel on to the #11/12 Wyoming Cowboys for a Sunday, Jan. 13, dual. Start time is 1:00 pm Pacific. You can watch live on FloWrestling if you are a subsciber. Live stats will be free on TrackWrestling (Hopefully they will work better than they did today.) Again, congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff on their victory tonight!

Go Beavs!
