Please let me know if I have any of the guys identified incorrectly - still getting used to the new faces.

At the end of the Practice session, wrestler Devin Reynolds came over to the bleachers, thanked everyone for coming and visited. He told us that Jess Lewis is doing well, has started his physical therapy and enjoys visitors, so stop by and say hello if you are in town!

Next chance to see the Beavers getting geared up for the season - Saturday, October 24. Practice on the 24th will be followed by the Parent-Fan Tailgater. More information will be coming out on that, but get it marked on your calendar!

Open Practice - Sept 25 - Part 1

The Beavers held their first Open Practice on Friday afternoon in the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room before the football game with Stanford.

Coaches make sure the guys have their paperwork in
A small contingent of fans and parents were on hand to take in the action. This practice was unofficial, so it wasn't as structured as usual. Someone was calling directions for the warm-up and cool down, I think it was Joey Palmer, if I heard correctly. In between those two periods, the guys paired off and wrestled.

It was fun to get back into the room and see the guys out there going through their paces. There were some epic battles going on between Kegan Calkins and Ronnie Bresser III. They were right in front of the bleachers, so they were hard to miss! Joey Palmer got in at least  one throw that drew oohs and ahs from the bleachers across the room, so you know it was good! Amar Dhesi was looking good, he was wrestling first with the new Volunteer Assistant Coach Devin Mellon, then with Austin Morehead who is back to help with the team. Everyone there was working hard. It's hard to focus on any one pair.

I took a few pictures so you can get a glimpse of what was going on.

Some new faces in the room among the veterans

Austin Morehead paired off with Jimmy Millea

Open Practice on Friday!

The wait is almost over! Tomorrow afternoon, September 25, Friday, 4 pm at the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room in the Sports Performance Center, the first Open Practice of the 2015-16 season will be held. It's your first chance to see who is on the team this year.

This will be an unofficial practice as the official start time for D1 Wrestling is a short time away in October, I believe. The coaches will be on hand, but the practice will be run by the team. It's still a great chance to get to know the new faces and say hello to some of the familiar faces. Don't forget to print out a roster and bring it along to help with the names and faces if you are not familiar with everyone.

Practice is held in the wrestling room, which is upstairs in the Sports Performance Center on campus, between Gill Coliseum and Reser Stadium. The entrance is on the east side, facing Gill, in the center of the building. The basketball practice rooms are next to the door. Inside you will find the stairs straight ahead, or an elevator to the right.

There is a limited amount of bleacher space in the far corner inside the room. You may also stand along the sidelines, off the mats, to watch. No matter where you are, please do be aware that the guys will be wrestling and occasionally will come flying off onto the sidelines!

Practice lasts approximately 1.5 hours, so if you are attending the football game, you will have plenty of time to get to your seats for that.

Parking is not usually a problem for wrestling meets. However, since there will be a football game, all of the parking lots around the stadium on campus will be pay lots with tailgaters starting to congregate. Sometimes there may be on street parking, but this will be Friday, a class day, so that may be limited as well.

Your next chance to see the team at work will be October 24, a Saturday, for Open Practice and the Parent and Fan Tailgate Party. More information about that closer to the date.

While you have your calendar out, mark down Wednesday, Nov 4, 7 pm in Gill Coliseum for the Intrasquad where team members battle for the starting positions. The team gets their first taste of real competition a few days later at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove, on Sunday, Nov 8. The first home action will be November 21, a Saturday. The team starts off the home season in a big way, hosting a tri-dual with Utah Valley and Rutgers. For the schedule, check here

Beavers Kick Off Open Practice!

Only one more week until you can get your first taste of the 2015-16 Wrestling Team!!

Here is a short message from the Coaching Staff with more details about the Open Practice and the schedule:
Next weekend we will have our first open practice for the fans, alumni and parents at 4 PM on Friday Night, Sept. 25, before the football game vs. Stanford. We would love to have you in The Dale Thomas Wrestling Room and check out the team as we begin our build for the 2015-2016 season! We are excited about our team this year and the potential that they have. We would love as many of our alumni to be on hand as possible.

Our schedule is still tentative at this points, unfortunately…Pac 12 TV switched some things around and we are looking to finalize one date of competition before it’s finished. We have a great challenging schedule this year that I think you will like, so please stay tuned. As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

OSU Coaching Staff

For those who are not familiar with the location of the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room, it is upstairs in the Sports Performance Center, next to the Basketball Practice Center.

Practice usually lasts about 1.5 hours. There are bleachers in the back corner of the room, but if they are full, you are welcome to observe from the sidelines of the room, just be sure to keep an eye out for moving bodies on the mats! Hope many of you can come!

For complete results, see here. For more stories, check here.

Now for a bit of housekeeping. Many of you have not received the last couple of emails I sent out, due to Google changing the rules for Group Email without telling anyone what was going on. Instead of working as usual, it has randomly picked addresses, thereby dropping many people off.

For now at least, I will be posting all of my email messages to the website for "The FALL" so anyone/everyone can read them. For Website click here.

Hopefully I will be able to get this corrected before things get going for the season, so bear with me, please. I may have to change email addresses again if Google chooses to restrict email too much. If anyone does a lot of large group emails and has an emailer to recommend, please let me know! Meanwhile, if you haven't heard from me in a while, check the website for news. Thank you!

Wrestling Update - Septemeber 3, 2015

In case you have not already seen them, there are several good articles out about Jess Lewis and all he's been through lately. There is also good news - Jess is expected to be released to home care next week!

The first article was on OregonLive, the on-line Oregonian. Here is the link, thanks to Craig Scharer for sending that link:

Len Kauffman also sent the note today that you can read down below my sign-off. It includes a couple more links to different stories about Jess. They are all well worth reading.

Message from Len Kauffman:

Jess Lewis' gathering at his rehabilitation facility yesterday was attended by a good number of OSU buddies as well as house residents.  Craig Hanneman presentation on his 2012 Mount Everest climb was well received.  Jess is recovering well and expected to go home next week - with home care assistance.  Kerry Eggers was there and wrote a wonderful article for today's Portland Tribune.  This morning Kerry also a copy of a 2013 article on Jess.  Links to both are here:

Think you'll enjoy them.  Keep Jess in your thoughts.
