Wrestling Update - Sept 10

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Time for a few quick notes to get you in gear for the upcoming wrestling season. Less than a month until the first of the Open Practices - October 6!

First of all, Amar Dhesi has competed in the Poland Open in Warsaw. Amar started off with a victory in his first match, but lost his second. He did not get a second chance as the person he lost to also lost another match. Thanks to Craig Scharer for passing along the news and the brackets for Amar's weightclass.

Next, don't forget to contact Evan Hooper (evan.hooper@oregonstate.edu) if you are an experienced triangle scoreboard operator and would like to work for Oregon State  at the upcoming home meets.

The latest report on Greg Strobel, former Oregon State wrestler and National Champion, in his battle with cancer - Greg is doing well. He is in "Active Recovery State", according to Len Kauffman who had a phone conversation with Greg.

Anyone interested in giving some time and energy to wrestling? "The FALL" Board needs you! The Board is in need of some help to fill the positions needed to keep the Board and the Club going. Email me or any of the other Board members if you are interested. (Reynold Gardner, Jennifer Gardner, Michael Denison, Craig Scharer.) Thank you!

As mentioned at the start, the Open Practices are coming up soon! They will be Oct 6, 20, and Nov 3. Be sure you have those dates on your calendar!

Last but not least - the latest Update from the Coaches came up at then end of last week. If you have not had a chance to read it, I have copied it after my signature. It covers the team trip to Camp Tadmore - we have to remember to ask the guys how well the coaches can cook! - and the Benefit dinner and auction coming up October 13.

Go Beavs!

Hello Beaver Nation,
Everyone is getting ready to report back to Corvallis, and we are excited to get to work!

The team returns on Sunday, Sept. 9, before we leave to go on our annual team trip to Camp Tadmor the following day. The camp is located in the beautiful hills about 45 minutes east of Corvallis. While there, well do some conditioning and team building activities. The coaching staff prepares all of the meals. Its a great experience for the team to hang out and relax.

Amarveer Dhesi is in Warsaw, Poland, to wrestle in the Poland Open in preparation for the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary, in October. After Poland, Dhesi will continue to train for the championship in Corvallis. Dhesi will compete on the first two days of the World Championship. For more information on the World Championship schedule, please check out the link below.

2018-2019 Tentative Schedule
The tentative schedule for the upcoming season is attached. Many of the times have not yet been confirmed, but as soon as they are, we will let everyone know. We have a lot of great home matches this year, and we look forward to seeing you all in attendance!

Pledge for Pins
We are hosting our Pledge for Pins drive again this season. Pledge for Pins is designed to help grow the Oregon State Wrestling program. The money raised goes directly to the Orange Crush Wrestling Club, which is a nonprofit organization that supports the Oregon State Wrestling team. If you would like to get involved, please print off and fill out one of the attached forms. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Oregon State Wrestling staff.
Oregon State Kickoff and Orange Crush Benefit Dinner & Auction
On Saturday, Oct. 13, we will host our first annual Oregon State Kickoff and Orange Crush Benefit Dinner & Auction. This will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Gruber Hall. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are $30.00 per person. Jim Zalesky will speak about the upcoming season and the team schedule. If anyone has any auction items they would like to donate to the event, we would greatly appreciate it. We already have some great items, but could always use more. If you have any questions or would like to donate an item, please contact Jason Lara at 541-224-2829.

As many of you may have noticed, we did not host the golf outing this year. We wanted to try something different and have the dinner and auction instead. We may go back to having a golf outing in the future or possibly host both.
