Wrestling Update - Sept 17

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Fall is in the air and that means the wrestling season is getting closer all the time. Only 18 more days until we can get our first peek at the Oregon State 2018-19 Wrestling team! The first Open Practice will be held Oct 6, prior to the football game.

A couple noteworthy items were shared with me as well as  the latest Update from the Coaches from last week.

First - some good news about another wrestling program being started up in the state. Corban, a small, private university near Salem, Oregon, is adding wrestling to their athletic programs, thanks in part to financial assistance from the "Restore" group. Good work, gentlemen! To read more about the new program, see this article by the NAIA. Thank you to Craig Scharer for passing along this news!

Have you stopped to consider who you would pick as an All-2000 team for the Beavers? Match up your selections with those of "The Open Mat". You will find their picks for Oregon State as other NCAA teams in this article. Thanks to Ron Iwasaki for sharing that article with me!

Finally, if the latest Update from the Coaches Office got buried in your email box before you had a chance to read it - you can find it down below my signature.

Go Beavs!

Hello Beaver Nation,
The boys are back in town!
The team camping trip was a great time. We got in some great workouts and enjoyed games of Mountain Ball (a variation of baseball that uses a baseball bat and soccer ball) and a card game called Mafia that really gets the team interacting and thinking. Overall, it was a successful trip, and we are ready to get to work!
Amarveer Dhesi will return to town next week to begin his training for the Wrestling World Championship. Dhesi will compete on the first two days of the World Championship. For more information on the World Championship schedule, please check out the link below.
2018-2019 Tentative Schedule
The tentative schedule for the upcoming season is linked. Many of the times have not yet been confirmed, but as soon as they are, we will let everyone know. We have a lot of great home matches this year, and we look forward to seeing you all in attendance!
Pledge for Pins
We are hosting our Pledge for Pins drive again this season. Pledge for Pins is designed to help grow the Oregon State Wrestling program. The money raised goes directly to the Orange Crush Wrestling Club, which is a nonprofit organization that supports the Oregon State Wrestling team. If you would like to get involved, please print off and fill out one of the linked forms. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Oregon State Wrestling staff.
Oregon State Kickoff and Orange Crush Benefit Dinner & Auction
On Saturday, Oct. 13, we will host our first annual Oregon State Kickoff and Orange Crush Benefit Dinner & Auction. This will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Gruber Hall. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are $30.00 per person. Jim Zalesky will speak about the upcoming season and the team schedule.
 Current Auction Items:
  • Trip to Las Vegas to watch the team compete at the Cliff Keen Invitational on Nov. 28 Dec. 1 (airfare and hotel)
  • Airfare to the NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, along with two lower bowl tickets and two tickets to all home dual meets
  • Tickets to home Oregon State Football games (Cal, USC, Oregon)
  • Day of labor from 8-10 of our wrestlers (8 hour day of labor)

We already have some great auction items, but we could always use more. If anyone has any auction items they would like to donate to the event, we would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions or would like to donate an item, please contact Jason Lara at 541-224-2829.

As many of you may have noticed, we did not host the golf outing this year. We wanted to try something different and have the dinner and auction instead. We may go back to having a golf outing in the future or possibly host both.
