More Coaching Changes in the Pac-12

Seems that the deck is being shuffled at the coaching level in the Pac-12 during the off-season.

OSU's Volunteer Assistant Coach, Devin Mellon has returned to his roots, taking on a similar position at his alma mater - Missouri. Intermat has an article where you can read more about Devin's move back home. He left the day before the Wrestling Banquet, so we didn't get a
chance to thank him for his enthusiasm and service.

The most recent change was the move of Mike Mendoza from Cal State Bakersfield to the head coach position at Boise State, taking Greg Randall's place. (Taylor Meeks was the interim head coach. No mention was made of Taylor in the article about Mendoza by Intermat.)

These coaching moves join the ones already underway. Cal Poly's coach, Brendan Buckley, left for New York earlier this year. He was replaced by Jon Sieoredas, previously coach at Grand Canyon. You can read Cal Poly's article here.  Our own Coach Troy Steiner has left to restart the Fresno program. Fresno has an article about his introduction.

A big "Thank You!" to Craig Scharer, FALL Board member, who provided me with the leads and the links to these stories!!

One note about these emails. Mail Chimp, the delivery system, has been warning that some of the email providers are taking more measures to prevent spamming. If gmail decides to join in, my ability to send emails will be curtailed again!

While I don't send out a lot of email in the summer, there are usually a few. So if you have not heard from me for a while, you may want to check The FALL's blogsite to see if any thing new has been put up. I will continue to update the blogsite, whether or not I am able to send emails, as long as I have news to share. Be sure to bookmark the blogsite so that you don't have to go hunting for it.

I can still be reached at this same email address, and will be happy to answer any questions.

Coach Steiner To Lead Fresno & Other Wrestling News

It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that I pass along the news that Coach Troy Steiner has accepted the Head Coaching position at Fresno, and will take charge of the revitalization of their wrestling program.

Pride in that Coach Steiner is one of the best; sadness because Troy has become a good friend, it has been a pleasure working with him, and he will be missed. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we wish you all the best, Troy! (Except when Fresno wrestles Oregon State, then I will be rooting for the Beavs!)

For more of the details, check out the article at this link from Intermat. Thanks to Craig Scharer for sending that link.

Wrestling Awards Given Out at Banquet

Crowd enjoying dinner at the Awards Banquet
A small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed a great dinner on Sunday afternoon in Reser Stadium's Club. Dinner was followed by the Awards program, capping the 2015-16 Wrestling Season for Oregon State.

The FALL Board opened the program with their two awards, one for the Club member Volunteer of the Year Award which went to Ken & Andrea Tobin. Ken & Andrea stepped up when asked and joined the FALL Board this year. The Board is very appreciative of their efforts to help! The Tobins are the parents of wrestler Izaak Tobin.

The second Award From The FALL, the Alumnus Volunteer of the Year Award, went to Ron Iwasaki, '65-'67. Ron always adds to the festive nature of the Banquet and some Socials by providing blooming plants to decorate the room. Many thanks, Ron!!

A few other items for your attention:

Julie Hoskins' Memorial Service has been planned. FALL Fan Club member Don Hoskins, has graciously invited all who knew his wife Julie to the Service. It will be held on June 1. If you would like more information, please contact me and I will pass along the details from Don.

OSU Wrestling has lost another of its older generation wrestlers. Yoshio "Yosh" Kiyokawa passed away April 26, 2016. On behalf of The FALL Fan Club, our deepest sympathy to the family of Yoshio. Another wrestler in the family, and member of The FALL Fan Club, Randy Kiyokawa ('79-'81) has made a request that someone may be able to help him with:

What I'm looking for are any old photos that my have my uncle's picture in them when at OSU.  I saw an old year book when I was at OSU back in the 1980's that had a team photo of him in it but never have never been able to find it since.  I wanted to share it with his family. He was born March 9, 1930 and wrestled at OSU around 1948-52(?)
Any help his greatly appreciated.

A reminder - the Wrestling Awards Banquet will be held next Sunday, May 8. We have ordered a few extra seats, so if anyone discovers that they may still come, check with me to see if seats are still available.
