Beavers Gnaw Down Stanford Cardinal (3) - Jan 10, 2015

197 - Cody Crawford
Cody Crawford took to the mat at 197, his opponent Zach Nevills. It wasn't a high scoring match, but Cody prevailed, winning 4-1. Score: Beavers 16 Stanford 9. Go, Beavs!
197 - Nevills vs Crawford

Hwt, the big men coming out. Nate Keeve squared off with Josh Marchok. No score in the first period. Escape for Marchok in the second, escape for Keeve in the third, tied, 1-1. Overtime again! This one went Stanford's way, 3-1. Score: Beavers 16, Stanford 12.
Hwt - Nate Keeve

125 - Bresser vs Silver
With the score at 16-12, the final outcome is still at risk. There is one match left, the 125's. This was the key match of the night, two ranked opponents, OSU's Ronnie Bresser III, ranked #14 and Stanford's Evan Silver, #13. Silver had won the last meeting, who would win this time? Bresser fell behind early, but kept it close, then making his move at the end, scoring a takedown with only 30 seconds to go and holding Silver down for the 4-3 victory, much to the thrill of the fans!! Final score: Beavers 19 Cardinal 12.
125 - Ronnie Bresser III

Fans enjoyed a Social in Reser Stadium, Club level, following the meet to celebrate with the team and the coaching staff.

Thanks to Michael Denison for sharing these photographs!

The Beavers take on the Bakersfield Roadrunners on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 in the morning.

Beavers Gnaw Down Stanford Cardinal (2) - Jan 10, 2015

Action continued from previous post:

157 - Alex Elder
157's next. Alex Elder took it to Max Hvolbek and came out the winner 11-4, not quite reaching a major. Scored tied again, Beavers 6, Cardinal 6.

Now we're up to 165. Seth Thomas faced #14 Jim Wilson. Their score was tied at the end of the second period, 2-2, but Wilson scored 2 more points to take the match 4-2. Score: Beavers 6 Cardinal 9. Advantage back to Stanford. Come on, Beavs!
165 - Seth Thomas

After a halftime break for the television announcers, action picked back up at 174. Joe Latham faced down Keaton Subjeck who had beaten him several times already this year. Enough of that! Latham won 6-3. Team score tied again: Beavers 9, Stanford 9. That's better.
174 - Joe Latham
Winner - Latham at 174!

184 - Meeks vs Davies
Eighth ranked 184 Taylor Meeks followed, wrestling Ryan Davies. Meeks rolled up an 11-3 major decision, adding an extra point to the Beavers score: Beavers 13 Cardinal 9. Now they're on a roll!

133 - Schram vs Hathaway
1,207 fans watched as the Oregon State Beavers turned the score back to their favor and gnawed the Cardinal to the ground, final score OSU 19, Cardinal 12!
The meet began with a moment of silence to honor two former Beaver wrestlers one more time, Herb Haberlach and Joel Neuschwander who both died recently. May they rest in peace.

If anyone would like to make memorial donations in either Herb's or Joel's memory, both requested donations be made to Oregon State Wrestling. Checks may be made out to Oregon State Wrestling Endowment Fund and mailed to: OSU Wrestling Office, 129 Gill Coliseum, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR 97331. Thank you!

133 - Jack Hathaway
Formalities completed, the focus returned to the mat. Most people figured the dual would be close. The 133 pound weight class started things off. After 3 periods, the score was tied 3-3. It took Jack Hathaway Over-Time to win the first match over Connor Schram 5-3. Score: Beavers 3 Stanford 0.
133 - Hathaway!

Next up, 141 Jared Reis filled in for Devin Reynolds. Reis lost to Isaiah Locsin, but held it to a decision 5-12. Score: Beavers 3 Stanford 3.
141 - Reis vs Locsin

141- Jared Reis

149 - Abraham Rodriguez
At 149 Abraham Rodriguez got in a tangle with Garrett Schaner, but came out on the short end, losing 8-11. Score: Beavers 3 Stanford 6. Oh, oh.Wrong direction.
149 - Rodriguez vs Schaner

Since the photos may slow the download of this post, I will continue on another entry.

Thanks to FALL Board member and ace sports photographer, Michael Denison, who provided all of these great action shots!
