Ron Brown - Long Time Wrestling Fan - Passes Away

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Long time Oregon State Wrestling Fan, Ron Brown  has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Vi and all of their family.

Ron's health had kept him from attending many meets in recent years, but I believe that Ron & Vi supported Oregon State Wrestling for over fifty years. They have been loyal fans. Ron will be missed.

This is information passed along by Len Kauffman:
.... Ron lost his battle with Parkinson’s Sunday night.  After falling and breaking a hip, could not get back on his feet.  We are having a memorial on July 7 at 11 at McHenry funeral home.....

And from Len:

For those who would like to send a card or letter to Vi, her address is:
Vi Brown
Corvallis, OR 97333-9528
Please remember Ron's memorial service at 11:00 Saturday July 7.

For Ron, Go Beavs!

Wrestling News - June 18, 2018

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Just a quick note to keep everyone up to speed on the latest news that has come across my desk lately.

First, in early June, the Oregon State Wrestling Alumni lost another of their number, as Jerry Perez passed away. For long time Beaver fans, this is the note that Len Kauffman sent with the news:

As many of you know by now, Jerry Perez passed away form a major heart attack Friday, June 8th.  Jerry was a three-time Pacific Coast Champion (at 115 and 123).  He graduated from OSU in 1962, a year that the Beavers dominated the Pacific Coast tournament with six individual champions.  He was a long time wrestling official in Oregon and Washington and worked in the mental health industry in the Seattle area for all of his working career.
If you wish to send a card or letter to his wife, Sue, the address is:
Len
Thank you for sharing that, Len. Our sympathies to Jerrry's family.

Next up, for you MMA/UFC/Colby Covington fans, Colby has been finding quite a bit of success recently. Thanks to Michael Denison for sending this note:

Colby Covington won again.  Is now 14-1 and the new interim welterweight champion

Congratulations, Colby!!
The news about Colby's win was also included in the latest update from the Coaches Corner. In case you missed the email from the Coaching staff, I have pasted it it down below my signature. One of the main topics is the listing of the new recruiting class.  For more details about most of the individual recruits, see the article at osubeavers.com that came out May 23. Nine are listed there. The others are Michael Murphy, Steven Shelofsky, and Jamarcus NCAA's have come up with a new rule for transfersGrant.

One last item, brought to my attention by Craig Scharer - the NCAA's have come up with a new rule for transfers. You can find that article at intermat.

Thanks to all who brought those bits of news to my attention!

Don't forget the Coaches' note below. Go Beavs!

Below is an awesome Beaver Fan picture of Jim Hamer, Craig Scharer, Mike Denison and the late Dennis Fuller at the Grand Canyon two years ago. These four made the trip out to watch the Beavers wrestle at the Las Vegas Cliff Keen Invitational tournament! If you have great Beaver Fan pictures, please send them in!

Local Youth Wins National Cadet Championship

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Chance Lamer, one of Chad Lamer's - former Volunteer Coach for the Beavers a few years back - sons, is finding success at the Cadet level of Freestyle wrestling. He recently won the Cadet National Freestyle World Team Trials at 45 kg. You can see a video of an interview with Chance on YouTube. Congratulations, Chance!

Chance now has an opportunity to participate in the Cadet World Championships this summer. The following message is from David Williams, FALL Club member and Corvallis middle school wrestling coach.

Just recently, Chance Lamer won the Cadet World Team Trials! This means he has the opportunity to represent our country in Croatia next month. USA wrestling is asking the wrestlers to share the cost of travel expenses. Chance's Orange Crush coach, Jason Lara, has set up a go-fund-me account to help the Lamer family raise funds.  This is the link to the go fund me site: https://www.gofundme.com/get-chance-to-world-championships.

On other news, I recently posted some photographs taken by Ron Iwasaki, FALL Club member, at a Day of Service project undertaken by the IOC - a group of Oregon State Wrestling Alumni. You can find those photographs at "The FALL" Club's blogsite.
