Wrestling Update - Note From Coaching Staff

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Only a couple more days until the end of Spring Term at Oregon State. Summer is almost here. With that in mind, the Wrestling Office sent out an update yesterday. If you did not get a copy, here it is:

Greetings!

We hope everyone is having a great start to the summer. We are half way through finals week, and our guys are looking forward a short break. In a few weeks we will start summer camps and have a good training phase during that time. We are excited to get everyone back together after a few weeks on their own toward the end of the school year, plus bring in the new faces that will be joining us in the fall. We expect about ten new faces in the fall. We are excited about what they bring to the program. We have a good group of athletes and students joining us.

We still have some openings for The Dale Thomas Golf Outing, July 3rd! There will be fireworks a day early as some of our best fans, supporters, and alumni tee off at Corvallis Country Club! Get it on the fun, and help us raise funds necessary for success. Single golfers and foursomes welcome! If you would like to sponsor a hole, or be a corporate sponsor..please let me know! I have attached a registration form. It is a great day of fun, good and not so good golf, with lunch and dinner, and an auction! Your support greatly benefits the program and is so appreciated. It allows us to do things and have capabilities for our program that otherwise would not be possible. We want to build it bigger and better! So the more hands we have on deck, the better.

The schedule for 2017-18 is pretty much complete. When contracts are finalized, I can pass along. We will be hosting The Pac 12 Tournament this year in Gill Coliseum along with our home duals, so look for an exciting season of wrestling. We will be heading to The Las Vegas Invite and The Midlands again, along with The Navy Classic this year for the first time.

If you are a coach/parent and are interested in Summer Wrestling Camps, please visit
www.oregonstatewrestlingcamp.com. We hope everyone has a great summer and know we will see many of you this summer!

That's it. I hope you noticed that there is still room for more golfers. If you don't golf, but you eat - and who doesn't? - you can also still sign up to just come for the dinner and the action!

Looking forward to those new faces in the fall!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Time for a few updates and reminders.

First of all, a well attended Celebration of Life was held for Dennis Fuller last Sunday in Canby. If you would like a copy of Dennis' obituary, you can download this file from the Canby Herald (thanks, Ron Iwasaki!) or you can read it online at the Pamplin Media Group obituaries. (Thanks to Craig Scharer for that link!)

Thanks also go to Craig Scharer for sending a few photos from the celebration. To view the photos, simply click on any of them. Thanks, Craig!

Next up, it's always fun to hear from Beaver Wrestlers from the past. Craig Scharer and Ron Iwasaki sent this link to a YouTube video of Les Gutches. It is posed as a an advertisement- and it is, but it is really just Les telling his story of how he got committed to wrestling. Might be especially interesting for parents of active wrestlers.

Many of you will remember Gary Westford, recent past member of the FALL Board, artist and a former wrestler himself. Gary has been busy working on his art, in particular curating an exhibit at Willamette University that is opening this Friday. While Gary does many paintings of wrestlers, this is a little different - a collection of posters from the Psychedelic era in San Fransisco. If you are interested in attending Gary's lecture tomorrow at 5 pm, you can find the information at Willamette's website. The exhibit will be up from June 3 to August 27, 2017.

Next, a reminder of the Dale Thomas Golf Tournament, dinner and auction fund-raiser for wrestling on July 3. It's only about a month away, have you signed up yet?

Another thing you can do to add to the fun and the fund-raising is to bring along something that you think would make a good auction item. One of the parents, Richard Rockwell recently shared a picture of a cutting board he is making for the event. That photo will also be posted on the blog.

He is also making coasters and a wine rack, so get ready to bid on them! Thanks, Richard!

Last, we are still seeking new faces for the FALL Board. If you are interested, let me or any other Board member know! It does help if you are local and can make it to most of the home duals.
