Bresser in Finals Tonight - Dhesi Going For 5th!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,
Oregon State has two wrestlers who have survived to the last session of the Midlands and one is in the finals!

Ronnie Bresser
moved himself into the finals tonight with some exciting down-to-the-wire scrambling, beating Spencer Lee of Iowa, 3-1, in the semi-finals. You can view the scramble in a flowrestling video that is posted n the Oregon State Twitter feed. Scroll down until you get to a video box in the tweet. Definitely worth watching!!

Amar Dhesi began in the Consolation bracket in the morning, so he has had more matches to wrestle. He won the first by fall and decisioned the second. Unfortunately he got pinned in his third match. That dropped him into the 5th-6th place match that will take place in the final session.

The finals begin at 7 pm CST, 5 pm Pacific.

The two other Beavers wrestling this morning both lost close decisions. If Jack Hathaway and Hunter Willits had managed to win those matches, they also would have placed at Midlands. So close...

Results for Oregon State today (as compiled by TrackWrestling):

Semifinal - Ronnie Bresser (Oregon State) won by decision over Spencer Lee (Iowa - UNAT) (Dec 3-1)

Cons. Round 6 - Yahya Thomas (Northwestern - UNAT) won by decision over Jack Hathaway (Oregon State) (Dec 2-1)

Cons. Semi - Youssif Hemida (Maryland) won by fall over Amar Dhesi (Oregon State) (Fall 4:05)

Oregon State had risen to 10th in the team scores for a while, but is currently in 12th with 47.0 points.

Finals at 5 pm PST. Go Ronnie! Go Amar!

Beavers Face Big Test at Midlands

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Having had a break from competition since the Reno TOC, the Beavers now need to take it up a notch as they head into the Ken Kraft Midlands Tournament in Illinois. The competition at the Midlands will be some of the best in the country. As Coach Zalesky says, it's a good way to punch your ticket to the NCAA's in advance.

The tournament starts on Friday and concludes on Saturday, Dec 29 & 30.

The tournament opens at 9:30 CST - 7:30 Pacific. The schedule of events can be found here. You have multiple ways of following:
TrackWrestling
Twitter OSU Wrestling

You can find links to all of these on the osubeavers.com page in the orange box at the top of the article on the left side. For some reason, I was having trouble making some of the links work.

This from the article at osubeavers.com:
All four sessions will be broadcast on FloWrestling and BTN Plus. Each mat is a different stream on BTN2Go, while Flo will be here. The Big Ten Network will not be broadcasting the final sessions as they have in years past. Additionally, live scoring/stats/brackets will be on TrackWrestling.

For a look from host Northwestern's view, read the article here. One thing to note from this article if you are planning to attend, the tournament is in a different venue than usual. The Welsh Ryan Arena is undergoing renovation, so this year it will be held in the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Dhesi RTOC Champ - Beavers 4th!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The Oregon State wrestling team took a large contingent along to Reno for the Reno Tournament of Champions, including several not seen so far this year until now. At the end of the day, heavyweight Amar Dhesi, back in the line-up, was crowned champion at 285 and the Beavers took 4th place behind NC State, Wyoming and Missouri.

Also placing for the Beavers - Corey Griego 3rd at 197, Ronnie Bresser 4th at 125, Bob Coleman 4th at 184 and Jack Hathaway 6th at 141. Congratulations to all the placers!! Congratulations to all the others for all the points they added to the total with their bonus point wins.

Two other Beavers were close to placing. Hunter Willits was 2 wins from the 157 5th place match and Aaron Olmos was one win away at 165.

For more details, check osubeavers.com for their article. You can see more results at Flowrestling's FloArena.

If you are looking for all of the Oregon State wrestlers at FloArena, be sure to check under the "Un-OSU" team. They were wrestling "unattached". They did manage a 22nd place finish out of more than 60 teams. Bob Coleman was their one placer, but the rest added points to that total with their wins and especially their pins! Congratulations to all!

A bit of trivia for local (Corvallis) wrestling fans - red-shirt freshman Grant Willits was wrestling at 141. He had a 12-5 win against Brawley Lamer of Cal Poly. Brawley is a former Crescent Valley High (Corvallis school) star.

The Beavers are now off until right before the end of the year when they head for Evanston, Illinois, and the Midlands tournament. Midlands is a two day tournament, Dec 29 and 30.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

After a break for finals, the Oregon State Wrestling team is back on the road.

Beavers Headed for Joe Wells Classic
The Beavers are headed for Michigan where they take on the #9 Wolverines in the Third Annual Joe Wells Classic. The Classic honors the late Joe Wells, who was Head Coach for the Beavers after being an Assistant Coach for the Wolverines. Start time is 11:00 am PST, Sunday, Dec 10. You can follow the wrestling through TrackWrestling.com

For more details on the dual, check the article in the Corvallis Gazette Times. Just scroll down a ways and you will find the article on the left side of that page. You can also read more in the osubeavers.com article. See a preview article from Michigan's viewpoint at their site.

Link For Live Stats
To follow the wrestling live, TrackWrestling will be providing live stats. You can find that here: live stats. It looks as if Michigan will also be providing live video. They have links to both the video and the live stats on their schedule page on the line for the Dec 10 meet. I believe the video is free, but I'm not certain.

Photos From Cliff Keen
Thanks to our intrepid photographer and FALL Treasurer, Michael Denison, we have action photos of the Beavers who participated in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas tournament. Join "The FALL"
It's still not too late to join the fan Club for Oregon State Wrestling for this season, "The FALL" Fan Club. Most of our home season still lies ahead of us, so most of the Socials are yet to come. We were a little late with our lapel pin design, so while we wait for the pins to arrive, you can still sign up and be included in our membership mailing.

You can join either on-line with a credit card or through the mail with a check. For our on-line portal, go here - On-line Portal. You can also fill out our application form and send it in with your check. I have attached the form to this email. The post-meet Socials are a great way to get together with old and new friends, have some refreshments and hash over the wrestling we all just witnessed. We'd love to have you in the Club!

Beavers Recap: Last Friday the Beavers competed in the Las Vegas Invitational. Our wrestlers struggled after being put out the first day of competition. OSUs  285-pounder Cody Crawford advanced the furthest of any OSU wrestler, making it to the 4th round of consolations. While three other Beavers advanced to the 3rd round of consolations, Jack Hathaway (141), Kurt Mode (149) and Seth Mcleod (184).

Coming Up:
We have an exciting month of competition! This Sunday Dec. 10 our Beavers will be competing against currently ranked No. 9 Michigan. Then we will be competing in the Reno Tournament of Champions (Dec. 17) and to end the calendar year we will travel to the Midlands Invitational (Dec. 29-30). The OSU wrestlers are excited for these opportunities to make a name for themselves and fight on the mat. They cannot simply expect to win, but must learn to fight for victory. For more information on dates and times, check out the link below for our official schedule.

We need a head count to pre-order tickets. This must be done before the end of next week (Dec. 16) or you will miss your opportunity to get NCAA tickets.

Fall Fan Club: The Fall Fan Club is a group of dedicated individuals who help support our OSU wrestling team. This group plays a crucial role in the success of our program.
