Final Call For NCAA Tickets!!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Does anyone still need NCAA tickets?? NOW is the time to put in your request.

Parents of wrestlers, this includes you! If you want to be seated in the Oregon State section, and do not yet have your tickets, please contact Coach Kevin Roberts ASAP!! kevin.roberts@oregonstate.edu

Coach Roberts has a few tickets left, so if you want some, let him know immediately, please. The NCAA's are only 3 weeks away, March 16-18, in St Louis, MO.

Five Oregon State wrestlers will be participating in this great tournament: Joey Palmer, Jack Hathaway, Joey Delgado, Corey Griego and Cody Crawford.

Looking back one last time to the Pac-12 tournament, the completed bracket is available.

A request for feedback - could anyone who used the group ticket sales link or rode the bus to the tournament give us any feedback on the process, please? Did the link work? How was the bus? Any comments can help us in the future. Thank you!

Another reminder - April 8 will be the Awards Banquet. Please save that date! The Board is working on plans right now to get it arranged. Expect the reservation form to be out soon!

Don't forget - if you haven't secured your tickets for the NCAA's yet, contact Kevin immediately!

Go Beavs!

Where are they now?

Lucas Mondragon (2014) - got married last fall. He has been working for Multnomah County Corrections, and was recently hired there as a deputy sheriff. Lucas is currently in the training process. Congratulations, Lucas!

Thanks to his mother, Gina, for sharing this information!

Palmer & Griego - Pac-12 Champs!!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Wrestling is over at the Pac-12 Tournament. As the dust settles, two Beavers emerge as Champions - Joey Palmer at 133 and Corey Griego at 197. Congratulations!!

There was no six-peat, however. The Beavers dropped to fourth place behind leaders ASU, Stanford and CSU Bakersfield.

Team standings:
ASU - 125.0
Stanford - 119.5
CSUB - 92
OSU - 91.5
Cal Poly - 78
Boise State -75

In the final championship match of the evening, Cody Crawford took the action to the second Sudden Victory round before being taken down by ASU's Tanner Hall, so Oregon State did come close to having three champions.

Jack Hathaway took second at 141 along with Cody Crawford's second at 285. Joey Delgado placed third at 149. Rodney Williams and Bob Coleman placed fifth at 165 and 174 respectively. Kegan Calkins, Abraham Rodriquez and Seth McLeod ended up 6th at 125, 157 and 184.

So far, the brackets have not been finalized. You can find brackets and team scores at Floarena. You do need to use the tabs and drop down menus to find all the information. If the regular brackets do get a final update, it should be on the Stanford page.

More details are available at osubeavers.com.

Thoughts now turn to the NCAA Championships coming up March 16-18 in St Louis. According to the allotments, 5 Beavers should have their tickets punched already: Palmer, Hathaway, Delgado, Griego and Crawford. Anyone else would have to receive a wild card.

Congratulations again to the Pac-12 Champs - Joey Palmer and Corey Griego, and the other placers!

Go Beavs!

Pac-12 Only a Few Hours Away! - Brackets Out

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Only a few more hours now until wrestling is underway in the 2017 Pac-12 Championship tournament!

The brackets are now out. You can find them here, or on other pages - the Stanford page or the Pac-12 page where they should be updated tomorrow during the day.

The schedule for Sunday is:

10:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. MTSession 1
4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MTSession 2
6 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. MTChampionship Session

Remember, all prelim matches will be streamed live, with a different camera for each mat. You can find links to those cameras on Stanford's page or the Pac-12 page. The finals will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

For those of you who are in Palo Alto for the tournament - don't forget to take advantage of the Group ticket arrangement for Beaver fans! Order your tickets from the Stanford office:
www.GoStanford.com/promo-code
Use the code OSUALUMNI.

Apparently we could not make any reservations for a place to have a Social for fans after the tournament. A couple of places were referred to me that are close by. Perhaps those who are there can decide where to go and let other Beaver fans know the plan. The two places I was told about were: "The Oasis" and "The Old Pro Sports Bar". Thanks to Brooks Hatch, OSU sportswriter, and Teri Zalesky for referring these names!

The season all comes down to this! Go Beavs!!

Pac-12 Championships This Sunday - The Scoop

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The 2017 Pac-12 Championships - individual and team - will be held this coming Sunday, Feb 26, at Stanford in Palo Alto, California.

Articles on sites for  OSU, Stanford and the other Pac-12 schools in addition to the  Pac-12 site give the schedule, the team previews, standings, etc. You can find those here:
OSU
Stanford - the link to live-streaming is on this page along with schedule, etc
Pac-12
ASU
Cal Poly
Bakersfield and Boise State did not yet have articles done on their teams at the Pac-12's.

If you will be attending, don't forget to order your tickets through the link for Beaver fans. You can order any number of tickets, we all count toward the group. An all-session pass is $10. To order, use
www.GoStanford.com/promo-code and enter the code OSUALUMNI.

If you cannot be there, but would like to watch, Stanford will be doing free live-streaming of all except the finals. The finals will be televised on the Pac-12 network. For the pre-lims, each mat will have separate video. The links to each mat for both sessions can be found on the Stanford site, just scroll down to the section labelled Live Coverage.

Seeding and brackets will be done Saturday evening. They will be available after that, but I'm not sure whether they will be on the Stanford site or the Pac-12 site. Could be both.

Besides the obvious goal of being an individual champion, the other goal is to make it the next step, to the NCAA Championships Tournament. The allocation is not a straight forward  distribution. To understand how the slots are allocated, check out this article at Intermat Wrestling. Thank you to Craig Scharer for sharing that link with me!

One last item for the folks who will be there. We are working on a location to have a no-host Social for Beaver fans after the wrestling is completed. Will let you know when that is arranged.

Wrestling begins Sunday morning at 10:30!

Go Beavs! Make it Six Straight!

Pac-12's Hotel Information - Link to Use!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

For those of you traveling to Stanford for the Pac-12 Championships, there is still room on the bus, but you must make your hotel reservations by Wed. Feb 22 at 5:00 pm! That will get you the special booking rate of $129 plus %10 tax per night.

Also to avoid any confusion at the front desk, please use this special booking link:

https://secure3.hilton.com/en_US/gi/reservation/book.htm?inputModule=HOTEL&ctyhocn=SJCMVGI&spec_plan=OWW&arrival=20170225&departure=20170227&cid=OM,WW,HILTONLINK,EN,DirectLink&fromId=HILTONLINKDIRECT

This booking is for all bus riders and any other Beaver fans who are traveling down for the championship tournament.

As stated earlier, there are still seats available on the bus, and the bus ride is free. All you need to do is email Ken Tobin to let him know you want to ride and in which town you will be getting on the bus. Ken will let you know where to park. Then use the booking link to make your hotel reservations and you are all set to go! Ken's email is: ken.tobin@hotmail.com

If you are wondering, the hotel is the same one that Beaver fans used a few years back when 'The FALL" sponsored the bus. While the distance makes for a long ride on the bus, that experience was a great one.

Don't forget - if you are going, take advantage of the group rate for tickets for Beaver fans. Use this link to place your order:
www.GoStanford.com/promo-codeThe code is OSUALUMNI  You can order any number of tickets, the group is all of us put together. You may print your tickets at home, or have them in Will Call at the arena.

So don't let a plane ticket keep you from going down to Palo Alto to cheer on the Beavs! "The FALL" would love to see a large, loud crowd in the stands rooting for the Beavs!

We do need help on one last item. No one has yet been able to locate a venue, relatively close to either the arena or the hotel, for Beaver fans to gather for a Social after the tournament. If you can help us with that, please let us know ASAP!! You can email either Ken Tobin or myself.

Thank you!! Go Beavs!

Beavers Trip Up the Roadrunners 32-9!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

It was Senior Night, the last home dual of the season, and the Beavers were hosting the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners.

After the first five matches, CSU Bakersfield had drawn to within two points of OSU, 11-9, but those were the last points the Roadrunners would score. Both Cody Crawford and Kegan Calkins put exclamation points on the final result with wins by fall for the last two matches of the night. Beavers 32 Roadrunners 9!!

To start the evening - Seniors Ali Alshujery, Joey Palmer and Joey Delgado were introduced along with their parents to the crowd. Thanks for all the years of hard work, guys!!

Wrestling began with the 133 weight class. Joey Palmer made good use of his last stand on his home mat. With a point for riding time, Joey picked up another tech fall for his career, 20-5. Jack Hathaway then knocked off #17 Russell Rohlfing at 141 by a 7-0 score. At 149, no takedowns were scored, and CSUB won by one escape point, giving the Roadrunners 3 points.

Next Abraham Rodriquez worked his way to a 9-6 decision at 157 taking the Beavers into the intermission with a 11-3 score .

At 165 the Roadrunners picked up a fall, leading to that 11-9 score, and it was nail biting time. But the Beavers took over from there.

Freshman Bob Coleman won a 10-8 decision at 174. At 184 Seth McLeod came out on fire against his taller opponent and came up with a decision of his own, 10-6 or 7. (I had 10-6, CSUB has 10-6, OSU has 10-7.)

At 197, Corey Griego had lots of wild scrambles in his match with a former high school teammate, but won a 8-3 decision Followed by the falls by Heavyweight Cody Crawford and 125 Kegan Calkins.

It was a good way to finish the home season for the Beavers. Congratulations to all the match winners, Palmer, Hathaway, Rodriquez, Coleman, McLeod, Griego, Crawford and Calkins!

Beavers Victorious in Pac-12 Meet with Cal Poly

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The Beavers improved to 3-1 in Pac 12 action today, defeating the visiting Cal Poly Mustangs 25-10. Oregon State won 7 of the 10 matches, but dropped three in a row in the middle weights.

The Beavers had racked up five matches in a row, 4 by major decision, for a total of 19 points before Cal Poly found their way onto the scoreboard.

Kegan Calkins got things rolling at 125 with a major decision, followed by Joey Palmer with another major at 133. Jack Hathaway added four points of his own to the team total with a major decision at 141.

Joey Delgado put up 3 points  with a 6-0 shutout at 149. Abraham Rodriquez collected some back points in the second period of his 157 match  to boost his win to a major, 11-2. Team score, OSU 19 CP 0.

Cal Poly then took over the winning ways at 165, 174 and 184, overpowering 165 Weston Dobler, 174 Bob Coleman and 184 Seth McLeod. They all fought hard, but could not pick up a win.

At 197, Corey Griego had quite a battle on his hands, but prevailed, 10-4. Cody Crawford brought the meet to a close with a 9-4 decision of his own at heavyweight.

Congratulations to Calkins, Palmer, Hathaway, Delgado, Rodriquez, Griego and Crawford!!

Gotta hand it to those Beaver fans. 597 (according to Brooks Hatch's article at osubeavers.com) of them made it to the meet in spite of the 3:00 Friday afternoon start time! Oregon State has the best wrestling fans!

Hard to believe, but that brings us to Sunday, Feb 12, the last home meet of the season. The Beavers host CSU Bakersfield Sunday evening and celebrate Senior Night. Final Weekend of Home Wrestling Coming Up!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Seems like the wrestling season just began, at least the home part of the schedule, but it is just about to wrap up this coming weekend. One away dual will follow, but then that's it for the regular wrestling season 2016-17. It will be on to the final tournaments, the Pac-12's and NCAA's.

Friday afternoon, at 3:00, the Beavers will host the Cal Poly Mustangs in Gill Coliseum. Not sure why the odd timing, it will not be easy for some fans to make it for this dual. There does not appear to be any way to watch it if you are unable to make it to Corvallis. TrackWrestling will have live stats available: on this page.

There will be no FALL Board presence in the lobby of Gill before the meet, and there will be no Social afterwards. The timing was too difficult.

The final home meet will take place Sunday evening, Feb. 12, hosting Cal State Bakersfield
. The  Roadrunners will take to the mat opposite the Beavers at 7:00 pm. A short ceremony honoring the Senior wrestlers will take place before the meet begins. That is usually about 10 minutes before the beginning of the meet. Don't miss it.

The three Seniors to be recognized are: Ali Alshujery, Joey Delgado and Joey Palmer. Where do those years go? Thanks for all your hard work, guys!

A Social in Reser's Loge will follow the conclusion of the meet. Come over and say thank you to the Seniors and wish them well for the rest of the remaining season. FALL Fan Club members, remember your ID badges for free admission to the Social. Some of you also have not yet picked up your lapel pins, please pick them up.

The CSUB dual will be televised on the Pac-12 network. You can also livestream the meet through the Pac-12 network on your computer, but it has to be through your television provider. Trackwrestling will also have live stats.

To scout out the weekend a little further, the following are some other articles:
osubeavers.com - rankings and news
Cal Poly - looking to their meets with OSU and Boise State
CSUB - looking to their Thursday night dual with ASU

Reminder - the season is quickly coming to an end. Don't forget the Pac-12 tournament hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, CA, on Sunday Feb 26.

Some parents of OSU wrestlers are generously putting together a free bus ride down to the tournament for  any & all Beaver fans! A $25 dollar donation is suggested to help defray the cost of the bus. (Give it to the driver, not to "The FALL".)

If you want to ride, sign up with Ken Tobin at:
ken.tobin
@hotmail.com  You will also need to make reservations for the hotel for two nights once that is arranged. The Bus will leave Corvallis at 5 am on Sat. Feb 25 and return on Monday. Stops will be made as needed heading south on I-5. Possible stops include: Springfield, Roseburg, Grants Pass and Ashland.

The bus holds about 40 people, reservations are first come - first served by signing up.

Last two chances to cheer on the Beavs this season in Gill on the new wrestling mat coming up! Be there!

Go Beavs!

More Details on Free Bus to Pac-12's

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

As mentioned in my last email, while "The FALL" had to cancel its bus trip with MTR, we have had some parents of wrestlers step up with a very generous offer to get Beaver fans to the Pac-12's at Stanford at the end of the month!

One parent has an older coach-style bus which he has used to take teams to various functions. He will use his bus to take a load of fans to the Pac-12's. He has generously volunteered to do this for free. If everyone offered a $25 donation, riders would be able to help defray the cost of fuel and other expenses.

The plan is still taking shape, but here's what we have so far:
- Saturday Feb. 25 - leave Corvallis at 5 am
- Stops for pick-up after Corvallis - Springfield, Roseburg, Grants Pass, possibly Ashland, where necessary along I-5
- Arrive at destination hotel around 5:00 pm, that allows for some rest stops, lunch stop; dinner at destination
- Sunday Feb 26 - bus takes you to tournament and back
- Monday Feb 27 - bus returns to Corvallis by the evening

Work is still underway on finding a hotel and a place for a Social after.

If you are interested in riding this fan bus, contact Ken Tobin at:
ken.tobin@hotmail.com Be sure to give Ken your contact information: email address, cell phone #. This could be very helpful in case you get separated from the group while on the trip! It will also be used to give you more information as the date gets closer.

When more of the details come together, I will send them out.

Again, this is NOT a FALL Fan Club activity
, It is not being subsidized by the FALL, and "The FALL" is not liable in any way. That said, "The FALL" is all about supporting the wrestling team. We would love to see a whole bus load of fans going down to Stanford to help cheer the Beavers on! So pass the word along, you do not need to be a member of "The FALL" to ride the bus, but you do need to sign up!

Don't forget, Cal Poly will be at Gill this Friday for a 3:00 meet with your Beavers. OSU has put out a new article on rankings and the meet with Cal Poly as well as the Seniors' last home dual on Sunday, Feb 12 with Bakersfield.

Beavers Can't Contain the Sun Devils

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

After two dual meet wins in a row for the Beavers, there was an air of hopefulness in the atmosphere of Gill Coliseum this afternoon that held almost all the way through the first four matches, but then it slowly ebbed away.

Action started at 125. Kegan Calkins held the match close in the first period, got behind in the second, then came storming back in the third. Time ran out, but the crowd appreciated his effort in the 8-12 loss (he was behind 1-10 in the second).

At 133 Joey Palmer controlled the match from beginning to tech fall end. Jack Hathaway's 141 match was close on the scoreboard but he owned the time clock, winning by riding time 3-2. OSU 8 ASU 3 Things were looking up.

But at 149 Joey Delgado appeared to have the match in hand until things went wrong in the third period. Suddenly the momentum shifted away from the Beavers.

The Beavers would not win another match until the 197 match where Corey Griego was so close to winning a major, but had to settle for a decision, 11-4. That was also OSU's last match victory for the day.

There was some line-up juggling with OSU putting Rodney Williams back in at 165 and David Henry in at 285. This was David's debut in the OSU line-up after a career on the OSU football team. Facing a #8 Tanner Hall was a pretty tough way to start! The meet concluded with ASU prevailing 33-11.

The Sun Devils did their own shifting, moving Jacen Petersen down to face Bob Coleman at 174 and moving their star #2 Zahid Valencia up to face Seth McLeod at 184.

For more details check these articles:
osubeavers.com
ASU's take on the meet

A small crowd of people not in a rush to go home to watch the Super Bowl gathered for the Social in Reser. They enjoyed a baked potato bar and the short program. One important announcement came up - the Bus to the Pac-12's.

The bad news, the bus sponsored by "The FALL" Fan Club was cancelled due to lack of riders. The good news - one of the parents has offered to drive a bus of his own and anyone who wishes may ride that bus for free. You do not need to be a member of "the FALL".

I will do an email in the next day or so with more details about this bus. A few technical details need to be worked out. One main point - THIS IS NOT A FALL FAN CLUB Activity. We will assist if we can, but this is not being organized by the Club.

The home meet schedule comes to an end next weekend. On Friday, the Beavers face another Pac-12 team, Cal Poly at 3:00 in the afternoon in Gill. Sunday, Feb 12 will be Senior Night, with The Beavers hosting Pac-12 foe Bakersfield at 7:00 pm PT. More on all of this will be coming later.

Border Axe Coming Back Home With The Beavs!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The Border Axe is coming back home with the Beavers! Oregon State's wrestling team defeated the Boise State Broncos, 31-13.

This year snow and ice did not prevent the Beavers from flying down to Boise as it did a couple of years ago, although Portland had some ice this morning.

None of that ice mattered. The Beavers started out on a hot streak, with Joey Palmer  picking up  a major at 133 for the first match of the evening. Jack Hathaway stacked another six points onto that with a first period fall at 141! Joey Delgado added a decision at 149. Score OSU 13 BSU 0.

Boise then got on the scoreboard in the next three matches to even the score. The Broncos got a fall at 157, a decision at 165 and a major at 174. Score 13-13.

But that was all the Broncos would win, the rest was all Beavers. At 184 Seth McLeod defeated his former teammate 5-2 to add three points to the team score. Corey Griego added another three points with his decision at 197. Cody Crawford didn't waste time, getting a fall at heavyweight  in the first period. That took the pressure off of Kegan Calkins as Cody's six points put the meet out of reach for Boise. Score 25-13

The meet finished off with the 125 match, where Kegan got a fall of his own to make the final score OSU 31 BSU 13.

One personal note - The tech people at BSU spelled Kegan's name wrong on their video scoreboard as "Keegan". It is neither spelled that way nor pronounced that way. In case you are wondering, it is pronounced Keg'un, like Megan, only with a "K".

The Beavers come home with the Border Axe and another Pac-12 win. They are now 2-0 in the Pac-12. They will have a chance to add a third on Sunday afternoon when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils in Gill Coliseum at 1:00, Feb. 5.

The Beavers will need to be ready for Sunday's dual. The Sun Devils have some highly ranked wrestlers and are ranked #14 as a team.

There will be a simple Social after the meet on Sunday, located in Reser Stadium's Loge. "FALL" Club members, don't forget to wear your ID badges for free entry to the Social and to pick up your free door prize ticket. While you are at it, pick up your "FALL" lapel pins for 2016-17.

If you have not already read the article by Arizona State, you may want to now.

If you cannot attend, the meet will be televised on the Pac-12 network, or you can follow live stats on Track Wrestling.

Congratulations again to all the Beaver match winners tonight - Palmer, Hathaway, Delgado, McLeod, Griego, Crawford and Calkins!!

Hope to see many of you at Gill on Sunday!

Wrestling This Weekend VS Boise State & Arizona State

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Oregon State's Wrestlers have a busy weekend - on the road on Friday and back home on Sunday. First they fly to Boise State for a 7 pm MT (6:00 PT) Border Battle vs the Broncos.  Then they return home to host the Arizona Sun Devils at Gill Coliseum at 1:00 PT.

The Border Battle in Boise will take place in conjunction with a gymnastics meet, billed as a Beauty and the Beast event. For more information, here are some articles for you:

If you want to follow and cannot attend, Boise does offer free livestream video, or live stats will be available from TrackWrestling.

On Sunday afternoon, the Beavers will be back home at 1:00 to face their third Pac-12 opponent in three duals, #14 Arizona State. Arizona State has dropped their last two duals (Stanford & #13 Illinois), so they will probably be fired up for vengeance. Be prepared, Beavs!

If you can't be on hand to cheer on the Beavers, the dual will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. An alternative is live stats through Track Wrestling.

To scout ASU, here are a couple of articles from their webpages:

"The FALL" Fan Club will be hosting a Social again following the Sunday meet. It will be held in Reser Stadium's Loge, on level 2. Don't forget
Your truly manning the table at the Social in the Loge
to bring your ID badges for free entry to the Social. If you have not yet picked up your lapel pins, don't forget to stop by "The FALL"'s table in the lobby of Gill before the meet or at the Social.

Out-of-town-parents who are "FALL" members, if you will not be able to attend any meets, you may ask your wrestler to pick up your pins for you, we'd be happy to do that for you.

Beavers, Bring Back that Border Axe!
