Beavs Corral Mustangs 26-10! Feb. 7, 2015

 Beaver fans got their money's worth of entertainment tonight as the Beavs battled to victory in 7 of the 10 matches with the Cal Poly Mustangs.


But first, before the start of wrestling, it was Senior Night, and the seniors were called out on the mat, accompanied by their families. Seniors Alex Elder, Brian Engdahl, Joe Latham, Taylor Meeks, Kurtis Ramsay, Pat Rollins and Nick Schlager were all honored for their years of contribution to the Oregon State Wrestling program.

125 - Ronnie Bresser III winner by tech fall! in the third period

133 - Jack Hathaway winner by decision (an escape and riding time)

141 - Devin Reynolds kept battling to the end, but couldn't get the win

149 - Abraham Rodriguez winner by decision, turned up the heat in the third period and almost won by major

157 - Alex Elder winner by major, it was all Alex, all the way

165 - Seth Thomas seemed to have this one in hand, and it slipped away in the last seconds

174 - Joe Latham's match was tied at the end of both 1st & 2nd periods, then at the end of the 3rd, there was a mad scramble. Joe seemed to have turned the tide with a reversal, but the Cal Poly coach protested and there was all sorts of confusion. Result - a tie was declared and OT ensued, with Cal Poly coming out on top.

184 - Taylor Meeks got caught in an early takedown, but then it was all Taylor, winning by major and loads of riding time

197 - Cody Crawford, winner by major decision, keeping the crowd going with lots of action

Hwt - Nate Keeve, facing another much larger opponent (his normal situation this year, it seems), winner by decision in Over Time!

Final score, OSU 26 CP 10. Way to go, Beavers!!

The Beavers return to the mat at 8 pm tomorrow for their final home meet vs Boise State in the Border battle. This one will be televised  on the Pac-12 network, but we need every available fan in the stands to help cheer the Beavers. Let's help them keep their home winning streak going!

Due to the late start time, we will not be having a Social following the meet. We will do something instead during the Pac-12's on March 1. More information on that later.

Beavers Say"Later" to Sooners! - Feb. 1, 2015

The Oregon State wrestling team kept its dual winning streak going this afternoon, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners on their home mat by a score of 20-17!

It was a real team effort. Bonus points could have tipped the score the other way, but everyone's effort turned it into a victory for the Beavers!

Key among those efforts was 157 Alex Elder's upset major decision over #11 Justin DeAngelis (No relation, in case you're wondering). Great job, Alex!

Next up, the Beavers return for their final home-stand of the season. (Where has the time gone?) Senior night will be Saturday, February 7 at 7 pm with the meet vs Pac-12 foe Cal Poly. Come and say thank you to all the seniors: Alex Elder, Brian Engdahl, Joe Latham, Taylor Meeks, Kurtis Ramsay, Pat Rollins and Nick Schlager. We're going to miss you guys!

The final event of the weekend will be the Border Battle with Boise State for bragging rights and the big, wooden "Border Axe". Start time for the Boise meet is 8:00 pm Sunday, February 8. We are planning on having a Social in Reser after each meet.

We need a big, boisterous crowd to help us close out the season at home for the Beavs! Hope you can be there!

Cal Collegiate Champion - Joey Palmer! - Jan. 31, 2015

Joey Palmer continued his winning redshirt ways, adding another Open Tournament championship at 133 to his collection. 

 

Congratulations, Joey! True freshman Kennen Lanteri also placed at the California Collegiate Championships tournament, coming in 4th at 165. Way to go, Kennen!  174 teammate Ali Alshujery joined Joey and Kennen on the trip to San Fransisco, but did not place.

Joey racked up two tech falls and a decision on the way to the finals, then beat the #1 seed by major in the finals. To see the brackets for the tournament, use the top set of numbers on this page by EscapeSports. Joey's brackets are in 133, Kennen's 165 and Ali's 174.

Beavers Declaw Wolverines 36-6! - Jan. 30, 2015

The Beaver wrestling team added another win to their streak, rolling the Utah Valley Wolverines 36-6, winning 8 out of the 10 matches! 

Action started at 157. Alex Elder started things off in the right direction winning by tech fall at the buzzer once his riding time was added. Three Beavers won by fall, Seth Thomas at 165, Cody Crawford at 197 and Devin Reynolds at 141. Taylor Meeks, 184, won by major decision.

Congratulations to all the match winners: Alex Elder, Seth Thomas, Taylor Meeks, Cody Crawford, Nate Keeve, Ronnie Bresser III, Devin Reynolds and Abraham Rodriguez!

Don't forget, the Beavers will be on the road next weekend again. The varsity has duals at Utah Valley and Oklahoma. The squad has their last opportunity for tournament wrestling this season in San Francisco, CA, at the California Collegiate Open next Saturday, Jan. 31.

The following weekend will be the final home meets for the season. Be ready for Senior night, when we officially thank the Seniors for all their years of work and then the second of the annual series of Border Battles with Boise State.

Beavs 2 for 2 On The Weekend! - Jan. 25, 2015

The Beavers are heading home with two more dual victories added to their streak! South Dakota State was today's victim of the 35-6 score. For the second dual in a row, the Beavers took 8 out of 10 matches!

Match winners were: 125 Ronnie Bresser (winner by fall!), 133 Jack Hathaway (winner by fall!), 141 Devin Reynolds, 149 Abraham Rodriguez, 165 Seth Thomas, 174 Joe Latham, 184 Taylor Meeks and 197 Cody Crawford. Congratulations!!

Almost All Beavers! 40-6! - Jan.23, 2015

The Beavers were on a roll tonight, crushing their Northern Colorado Bear opponents in turn as they came out onto the mat, until the last two matches. even those two were hanging in the balance until the final seconds. Final score, Beavers 40, Bears 6.

Ronnie Bresser III set the fire and the tone stepping out first at 125. He finished with a 15-6 major decision. If you weren't paying attention, you missed 133, as Jack Hathaway put his opponent away by fall in the first period!

At 141, Devin Reynolds gave up the first points, but worked his way back into the lead and closed the deal with a 2nd period fall of his own. Abraham Rodriguez took control of his 149 match early, almost reaching the tech fall score, but had to settle for a 20-7 victory, a major. In the last match before intermission, Alex Elder won 157 by a tech fall in the 2nd period by racking up lots of back points en route to his 17-0 win.

Seth Thomas started off the second half by winning an exciting match at 165. He upset a ranked wrestler by coming from behind (it was 1-6 at one point) to get ahead and then put it away by a 3rd period fall. Way to go, Seth! 174 next, Joe Latham amassed 4.5 minutes of Riding Time along with his 12-2 Major decision.

At 184, Taylor Meeks didn't keep his opponent on the mat very long, finishing the match by tech fall in the second period, 20-2.

At 197, Cody Crawford had a narrow lead in a low scoring match only to see it slip away in the final seconds, losing 2-3. Nate Keeve had the Hwt score tied 1-1 with an escape apiece, only to give up a takedown at the end, followed with an escape and not quite enough time to reverse the final score.

Final Score: 40-6, Beavers! Nice work , gentlemen!!
