Beavers Can't Match Michigan

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Michigan's #5 team was too much for the Beavers tonight, as they could only pick up two of the ten matches. Wins came with a  decision at 125 by Ronnie Bresser and a major decision by Hunter Willits at 157. Congratulations to Ronnie and Hunter!

A good crowd was on hand for the Joe Wells Classic, with many wrestling alumni returning to cheer on the Beavers.

For more details on the meet, check out the articles at:

The Beavers head out on the road next for meets with University of Northern Colorado and Wyoming.

Reminder - Wrestling Tonight - 7:00 Gill

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Just a quick reminder that there is a dual tonight in Gill at 7 pm between your Oregon State Beavers and the Michigan Wolverines.

If you'd like to do a little scouting ahead of time, here's some reading for you:
Oregon State's article  - looks like Amar Dhesi will be back!

One note about the Social following the meet: We have had to make a change in the price of admission to Socials for non-FALL Club members. The price of admission to the Socials is $10 per person, $30/family. With Homecoming for wrestlers tonight, all Alumni Wrestlers will be admitted for $5/person if they are not members of the FALL Fan Club. FALL Fan club members as always, are admitted free. You are still welcome to join the Club if you'd like.

We did not want to do this, but the caterer we have to deal with has raised their prices for us too much to not do so. Again, this price change is only for those who are not members of The FALL Fan Club.
Hope to see you tonight at Gill! Happy New Year!

Joe Wells Classic With Michigan Coming Up Thursday Evening!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

#5 Michigan will be coming to town on Thursday, January 3, for a 7:00 pm dual with the Beavers for this year's Joe Wells Classic. The dual between the Beavers and the Wolverines is in memory of the late Joe Wells, former Assistant Coach at Michigan and former Head Coach at Oregon State.

This meet also serves as the Homecoming Meet this year for all Oregon State Alumni wrestlers. Three events have been planned for the former wrestlers - a pre-meet function, a chance to sit together at the meet, and an invitation to the FALL Fan Club Social following the meet. For details, see the note from Len Kauffman, down below my signature.

While we hope that everyone can come, that's not always possible. If you want to follow along, you can watch it live on Pac-12 television, or follow live stats at TrackWrestling.

Neither OSU or Michigan has not yet put out their article on the meet. You can find a recap of Michigan's last dual on their website

As mentioned above, the FALL Fan Club will be hosting a Social in Reser Stadium's Club level. The Social is free for members of The FALL and $5 each for others. This time chips and dips, wings, fruit and veggies will be served. Door prizes will be awarded - everyone gets a free ticket with entry and may purchase more, $1 each or 6 for $5.

A Silent Auction is also held, part of the Club's fundraising effort to support the Awards Banquet. This time a framed classic wrestling poster is being offered by Gary Westford, former FALL Club Board member. Pictured are Aleksandr Karelin and Rulon Gardner in their legendary match in the Olympic finals, the poster is signed by Rulon Gardner. Minimum bid is $100.

Other News and Notes
The Beavers haven't wrestled since Dec 20, a few things have come along in the meantime.

Four Beavers actually did make the trip to Evanston, Illinois for the Midlands tournament. Devan Turner, Kegan Calkins, Connor Noonan and Bob Coleman made the trip. Bob did the best, reaching the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament, before getting knocked back to the consolation brackets. None placed. For more details, read the article at osubeavers.

The FALL Board will have several retirees at the end of this season, so if you are interested in serving the sport in this capacity, please read and consider FALL president Reynold Gardner's note:

The Board of Directors for “The FALL” Wrestling Booster Club is in Need for NEW BOARD MEMBERS.  At the current time there are only two members of the existing board who are able to serve in the upcoming season 2019-2020.  The booster club is stable financially.  What the club will look like next year will depend upon the resolve of its membership?

If you would like to see “The FALL” Wrestling Booster Club of Oregon State University continue and provide a positive environment for the club members and support for the wrestling program ……. Please let Reynold Gardner - beaverhwt@gmail.com or Elizabeth DeAngelis  - oregon.state.wrestling.boosters@gmail.com know of your interest?  The time commitment is minimal (couple of hours associated with each home event).

The coaches also sent out a recent update. If you haven't yet read that one, it is below Len's note at the bottom. If you want NCAA tickets be sure to read it all the way through and find Taylor Meek's contact info to get those tickets!

Last but not least, for those wondering what former Associate Coach Kevin Roberts has been up to, apparently he and his family have returned to Kevin's old stomping grounds, Spokane Valley, WA. An article has come out featuring his oldest son Drew, who is making a splash at Kevin's former high school. Best wishes to both Kevin and Drew! Thanks to Craig Scharer for bring that article to my attention.

Don't forget to come down and root for the Beavs on Thursday!

Gp Beavs!

From Len K: Gentlemen, Merry Christmas to you all.

By now most of you know of Ron Iwasaki’s (‘67) effort to increase the turnout for OSU dual meets...and that the January 3rd Michigan meet is being billed as our Wrestling Alumni Reunion Meet (what’s that….WARM in the winter).  At this moment 20 (including spouses) have indicated they will show up (see list below).

There are actually THREE activities that day that require a head count.  Ron Sather (’74) is organizing a pre-meet social at 4:00 pm.  He needs a count in order to pick an appropriate venue (his “man cave” at home or perhaps a pub in town).  At the 7:00 pm dual meet, we will have a section reserved for alums and spouses.  We need a head count to rope-off enough seats.  Thirdly, alums are invited to The Fall Booster Club post-meet social.  Those who are not members of The Fall can attend for $5.00.  The Club must have a head count in order to prepare adequate food.

Some of us are member of The Fall.  Those who are not are encouraged to join even if you don’t go to the meets/social.  They do a great deal of work to support our sport.

So, we NEED THREE HEAD-COUNTS:
Pre-meet social (4:00)
Dual meet (7:00)
Post-meet (~8:30)

And we need these numbers soon…before year end PLEASE!!!!  Send replies to both Ron Sather and me.  Looking forward to a good turnout…see ya on the third.

We are kicking of 2019 with a bang, as we take on the #5 Michigan Wolverines in Gill Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3. If you are looking for something to do after the holidays, come down and show your support by packing Gill Coliseum. Len Kauffman and Ron Sather are organizing a Wrestling Alumni Reunion with activities before and after the dual meet. More information is included [above]

The following week, we will wrestle at Northern Colorado on Jan. 11 and Wyoming on Jan. 13

Before we know it, we will be heading into postseason competition. If anyone is interested in purchasing 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship tickets, please contact Taylor Meeks at Taylor.meeks@oregonstate.edu. The venue for this year's NCAA Championship is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and tickets will sell out!

As Always, GO BEAVS!

Oregon State Wrestling Alumni Homecoming Meet - Jan. 3, Next Thursday!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans & Wrestling Alumni,

The next Home meet for the Oregon State Wrestling team will be next Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 pm at Gill. It is also the Wrestling Alumni Homecoming as well as the Joe Wells Classic. Coach Wells was an Assistant Coach at Michigan for years before coming to Oregon to coach the Beavs at Oregon State.

So, if you are one of the Wrestling Alumni, or even just know one of the many alumni, please listen up! A group of other alumni have made a plan to get everyone together for this next home meet. The following letter from Len Kauffman contains more information on what you can do to participate.

If you are not one of the former wrestlers, but know one or more, please share this information with them as well. We'd like to have a large crowd on hand to welcome the #5 Michigan team to Gill. The Beavers could use a lot of enthusiastic support from their fans in the stands.

Now, here's Len's message:

Beavers Bring 2018 to a Close

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Most of the Beaver wrestling team was in action somewhere today, the last day of wrestling for Oregon State in 2018. The starters had a dual in Fargo with #20 North Dakota State Bison, falling 31-13. A contingent of the squad competed at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

Dual meet match winners were Ronnie Bresser (by fall), Grant Willits (by major) and Hunter Willits (by decision). Congratulations, guys!

Brandon Kaylor and Devin Turner both made it to the semifinals in the consolation brackets, but both lost there. Since the RTOC only awarded first through 6th places, neither were able to place as they would have been wrestling for seventh.

For more information, check out the articles at:

To see a short video of the team arriving in and practicing at Fargo, check the OSU twitter account
- if you scroll down to the beginning of today's posts, you'll find that video. For those waiting for the return of Amar Dhesi, you can catch a glimpse of him warming up with the team near the end. Thanks to the eagle eye of Craig Scharer for noticing and sharing!

The Beavers are now off until the Joe Wells Classic, at home in Gill on Thursday, January 3 at 7:00. This will be the OSU Wrestling Alumni Homecoming. So if you are one of the past Beaver wrestlers, please pass the word along to your fellow wrestlers and make plans to attend. The Beavers will be taking on #5 Michigan, they'll need all the support they can get from the stands!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
