Wrestling Updates - End of September

Oregon State Wrestling fans,

Time to pass along some updates from the coaches. They've been so good at sending out notices, they've already sent out two since the last one I shared with you. You will find both of these pasted below my signature.

An important bit of news included is the Benefit dinner for the Orange Crush wrestling club. The OC provides very important support fro Oregon State Wrestling. The dinner is slated for Oct 13 at the Fairgrounds. Be sure that you are signed up and ready to participate! See the updates below for directions.

Note the Wrestling sign in the window
While I am sharing wrestling news, I'll take this opportunity to pass along a few more photos from Ron Iwasaki. Ron discovered another Brewery with Oregon State wrestling connections. Ron found the "Ordnance Brewery" in Boardman, Oregon, owned and operated by Craig Coleman, father of Beaver Bob Coleman. So if you are in Boardman, stop by and say hello! Thanks, Ron!

Greetings Beaver Nation,
The team is back in the full swing of things, working hard in the classroom and at our workouts! Currently, we are lifting two times a week and conditioning two times a week. Along with these mandatory workouts, we also have open mats, an optional workout that the guys can put themselves through, twice a week. These have all been going great. We will be having some Saturday open practices coming up in October. These will be open to the public.

Amarveer Dhesi is back in town and working hard. Coach Zalesky and Coach Meeks have put together a great training plan that will have Dhesi ready to roll at the end of October! Dhesi will compete on the first two days of the World Championship. For more information on the World Championship schedule, please check out the link below.

2018-19 Season Triangle Board Operator Needed & Open Practice Dates

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Oregon State is in need of a new triangle scoreboard operator for the upcoming wrestling season, preferably someone with experience. If you are interested, or know someone who would fit the bill, please contact Evan Hooper, Communications Assistant with the Athletic Dept.

A few other details provided by Evan - this is for wrestling events, experience should be preferably at NCAA events. It is a paid position, and right now six home duals scheduled. You would need to be free those dates.

Again, for anyone interested in this position, contact Evan Hooper. Evan's email address: evan.hooper@oregonstate.edu
Evan's cell phone: (608) 509-8659
Thank you for considering this position.

Some dates to add to your calendar: These are the expected dates for Open Practices and the opponent for the home football game:
Oct 6 vs WSU,
Oct 20 vs Cal,
Nov 3 vs USC (possible parent/fan tailgate).
Please add these dates to your calendar and come by for a preview of this year's Oregon State Wrestling team!

Open Practices take place on home football game days. They generally start about 3 hours before the football game starts and last about one and a half hours. This gives you ample time to make it to the football game. Practice takes place in the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room, upstairs in the Sports Performance Center, right across the street from Reser Football Stadium.

More information will come out closer to the date.

Go Beavs!

Wrestling Update - Sept 17

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Fall is in the air and that means the wrestling season is getting closer all the time. Only 18 more days until we can get our first peek at the Oregon State 2018-19 Wrestling team! The first Open Practice will be held Oct 6, prior to the football game.

A couple noteworthy items were shared with me as well as  the latest Update from the Coaches from last week.

First - some good news about another wrestling program being started up in the state. Corban, a small, private university near Salem, Oregon, is adding wrestling to their athletic programs, thanks in part to financial assistance from the "Restore" group. Good work, gentlemen! To read more about the new program, see this article by the NAIA. Thank you to Craig Scharer for passing along this news!

Have you stopped to consider who you would pick as an All-2000 team for the Beavers? Match up your selections with those of "The Open Mat". You will find their picks for Oregon State as other NCAA teams in this article. Thanks to Ron Iwasaki for sharing that article with me!

Finally, if the latest Update from the Coaches Office got buried in your email box before you had a chance to read it - you can find it down below my signature.

Hello Beaver Nation,
The boys are back in town!
The team camping trip was a great time. We got in some great workouts and enjoyed games of Mountain Ball (a variation of baseball that uses a baseball bat and soccer ball) and a card game called Mafia that really gets the team interacting and thinking. Overall, it was a successful trip, and we are ready to get to work!
Amarveer Dhesi will return to town next week to begin his training for the Wrestling World Championship. Dhesi will compete on the first two days of the World Championship. For more information on the World Championship schedule, please check out the link below.
2018-2019 Tentative Schedule
The tentative schedule for the upcoming season is linked. Many of the times have not yet been confirmed, but as soon as they are, we will let everyone know. We have a lot of great home matches this year, and we look forward to seeing you all in attendance!

Wrestling Update - Sept 10

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

Time for a few quick notes to get you in gear for the upcoming wrestling season. Less than a month until the first of the Open Practices - October 6!

First of all, Amar Dhesi has competed in the Poland Open in Warsaw. Amar started off with a victory in his first match, but lost his second. He did not get a second chance as the person he lost to also lost another match. Thanks to Craig Scharer for passing along the news and the brackets for Amar's weightclass.

Next, don't forget to contact Evan Hooper (evan.hooper@oregonstate.edu) if you are an experienced triangle scoreboard operator and would like to work for Oregon State  at the upcoming home meets.

The latest report on Greg Strobel, former Oregon State wrestler and National Champion, in his battle with cancer - Greg is doing well. He is in "Active Recovery State", according to Len Kauffman who had a phone conversation with Greg.

Anyone interested in giving some time and energy to wrestling? "The FALL" Board needs you! The Board is in need of some help to fill the positions needed to keep the Board and the Club going. Email me or any of the other Board members if you are interested. (Reynold Gardner, Jennifer Gardner, Michael Denison, Craig Scharer.) Thank you!

As mentioned at the start, the Open Practices are coming up soon! They will be Oct 6, 20, and Nov 3. Be sure you have those dates on your calendar!

Last but not least - the latest Update from the Coaches came up at then end of last week. If you have not had a chance to read it, I have copied it after my signature. It covers the team trip to Camp Tadmore - we have to remember to ask the guys how well the coaches can cook! - and the Benefit dinner and auction coming up October 13.
