Keep Stanford Wrestling (KSW) 2/4 Update //Keep Fresno State Wrestling

Beaver Wrestling Supporters,

One more announcement tonight, I encourage you to tune in to the fights to keep Stanford Wrestling and Fresno State Wrestling.  All who care about the well-being of Oregon State Wrestling should be concerned about the fate of these west coast programs.

Petition · Keep Fresno State Wrestling · Change.org

See the below email from Keep Stanford Wrestling.  The presentation shares what's been done and the jaw dropping pledges committed, and still the Administration was unmoved.  The website has some great videos.  I learned that Kegan Calkins’ mom Jana was Real Woods’ host mom when Woods who is from NM went to high school outside of Chicago.

Let’s help out however we can.

Go Beavs!

2021 Season Underway

The Cardinal went 3-2 in competition since our last update, bringing their season total to 4-2, including an undefeated record in Pac-12 competition (3-0). Going back to January 28th, the team earned wins against Cal Baptist (24-12) and Cal Poly (21-15). Jared Hill (174) and Nick Stemmet (197) turned in noteworthy performances in the Cal Baptist match, while Tyler Eischens (165) and Haydn Maley (197) made big contributions to the win over Cal Poly. A full recap of those competitions can be found here.

The Cardinal competed in a full day of wrestling this past Sunday, which included three duals and 47 contested matches. The team opened the day with a 24-9 win over host Little Rock, but fell to South Dakota State (23-15) and Oklahoma (21-12) in subsequent matches. All three duals saw noteworthy individual performances. Jackson DiSario (125) and Charlie Darracott (157) stood out in the match against Little Rock, while Requir Van der Merwe (157) and Nathan Traxler (Hwt) highlighted the dual against South Dakota State. Jason Miranda (133), Jaden Abas (149) and Van der Merwe (157) were the top performers in the final dual of the day against Oklahoma, having each earned wins over nationally ranked opponents. Finally, true freshman heavyweight Peter Ming's performance in extra matches deserves some recognition. Ming recorded two dominating wins over former top-100 overall recruits. A comprehensive recap of the day's action can be found here.

The Cardinal have been in Little Rock, Arkansas training since Sunday. They depart tomorrow for Corvallis, Oregon where they will prepare for matches against Oregon State (6 PM PST) and Utah Valley (8 PM PST) on Sunday, February 7th.

Beaver Wrestling Supporters,

I wanted to share this fundraiser which benefits the Greg Strobel National Teams Leadership Academy, which has been created to continue Greg's legacy of teaching others and unleashing human potential in all areas of life. Mike Clayton is leading a team of USA Wrestling staff who are developing the curriculum for this academy to benefit current and future National Team athletes.

See info in the below email from USA Wrestling.  The challenge starts on Feb 10 and to clarify, you do not need 10 sponsors to sign up.

Click on the Facebook link below (you do not need to have a FB account) to see a video of Strobel’s daughter Jennifer introduce the challenge and reflect on her dad.  Jennifer was the Lehigh Wrestling Team Manager prior to Greg being hired at Lehigh.

Greg Strobel “Make A Weight” Challenge Starts Feb 10!

USA Wrestling, in partnership with the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy announces the Greg Strobel ‘Make A Weight’ 30-Day Challenge. Plan now to participate in the challenge by signing up and getting pledges. The challenge begins Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

Greg Strobel was an outstanding athlete, coach, mentor and ambassador to the sport of wrestling. The teachings and life lessons he left behind are profound, including the value he placed on creating a “Lifetime of Good Habits”.

Every year Greg challenged himself to make his college wrestling weight to demonstrate the importance of Discipline, Accountability and Consistency, while also enriching the lives of others by fostering positive relationships, making connections, and creating a Family atmosphere within the wrestling communities he served.

To honor his commitment of creating and teaching others a Lifetime of Good Habits, the Greg Strobel ‘Make A Weight’ 30-day Challenge has been named in his honor. Funds raised will go directly to the Greg Strobel ‘Beyond the Mat’ National Teams Leadership Academy, which has been created to continue Greg’s legacy of teaching others and unleashing human potential in all areas of life for current and future National Team athletes.

Founded on the core beliefs of one of our sports greatest athletes and coaches, the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy is a training and development program focused on supporting our Senior Level USA Wrestling Athletes by learning, discussing, and sharing experiences around the core values of family, accountability, discipline, and creating a lifetime of good habits. Funds raised for this program will directly support the development of curriculum, a guest lecture series, and other program expenses. Similar programs are in development for our USA Wrestling young adult and 12U age groups.

The 30-Day Challenge will run from Wednesday, February 10 – Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Get involved
Sign-up and get your ‘Family’ of donors to contribute to the fundraiser! Click
HERE to register your participation.

The goal is a minimum of 10 donors to sponsor your fundraising efforts – either per pound, total pounds lost, or a flat donation.

Choose a goal weight.
With a 4 – 8 lb. weight loss goal over 30 days, this challenge is about creating healthy habits through consistency and goal setting. USA Wrestling recommends no more than 1 - 2 pounds weight loss per week. If you have a very low percentage of body fat, those numbers could be lower. If you ever have doubts on how much weight you can safely lose in 30 days, we recommend consulting your physician to determine a safe weight loss plan.

Coach Strobel would make his college weight class every year on his birthday. It was his way of ensuring he was disciplined and as tough as the day he won his NCAA title, as well as showing the athletes he coached that he practiced what he preached.

Create a workout plan that fits your lifestyle
For the duration of the challenge, the goal is to work out a minimum of 3 – 6 times per week. You pick the duration and type of workout that best suits your lifestyle and goals.

“Coach always told us we needed to continue working out when we finished our wrestling careers and suggested that we work out 6 days a week for our lifetime.” As athletes he would say that, “we were practicing to win matches, but also working to create a lifetime of good habits.”

Hold yourself accountable
Post one or more times per day on social media using #StrobelStrong.

Be creative – post your daily workout routines, healthy eating tips and ideas, current weight loss achievements, a story about the Strobel Family, a picture of the Strobel’s, or anything you believe ties to the spirit of the challenge would be appropriate.
