Beavers Snare Bears!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The Beavers started off 2017 in a winning way, defeating the Northern Colorado Golden Bears in a dual 31-15!

For those who didn't watch on live-stream, the action started at 125 where Kegan Calkins was leading for part of the match, but then lost a close match 5-4.

Next up Joey Palmer took to the mat back at 133, winning a major in convincing fashion 16-5. Jack Hathaway was back in the line-up at 141 and pulled out a big win, pinning Timmy Box in the second period! Beavers led 10-3.

At 149 Joey Delgado was behind, but with 7 seconds left in the match got the fall! Abraham Rodriquez followed up at 157 with a win of his own 9-5, making the score Beavers 19, Bears 3.

The Bears got back on the scoreboard picking up a fall of their own at 165 over Rodney Williams. Weston Dobler put more points on the board for the Beavers, winning a decision at 174 4-2.

The Bears picked up another fall when 184 Bob Coleman held off Dylan Gabel - who was 8th at the Southern Scuffle according to the announcers - until near the end of the third period.

The final two matches were all Beavers. At 197 Corey Griego ground out a 5-2 decision with loads of riding time. Cody Crawford made short work of his opponent with a first period fall at heavyweight.
Final Score: Beavers 31 Bears 15

Congratulations to the match winners - Joey Palmer, Jack Hathaway, Joey Delgado, Abraham Rodriquez, Weston Dobler, Corey Griego and Cody Crawford!

Next the Beavers travel on to face Wyoming on Sunday, Jan. 15. The dual starts at noon Pacific time, 1:00 Mountain. To scout the Cowboys, check out their article covering their loss this evening to South Dakota State.

It appears that live-streaming will be available for Sunday's dual. This link at Wyoming should give you the video. A preview is available there now, including former Beaver wrestler Ronnie Stevens who left the Beavers and now wrestles for Wyoming.

Sunday is also the date of one of the local open tournaments, the Boxer Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. Wrestling begins at 10 am. I do not know if any OSU squad members will be participating.

Way to go, Beavers! Let's get another one - Round Up the Cowboys!

Go Beavs!
