Intrasquad Results

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,
New scoreboard in Gill

Intrasquad: Fans were treated to 17 match-ups between teammates on the Oregon State Wrestling team at the Orange & Black Intrasquad meet last night at Gill Coliseum. The new, big central scoreboard also made its debut for wrestling, making the inside of Gill look very different. Additional new lighting really brightened the place up.

Wrestlers entertained the fans with three falls(Josh Reyes, Corey Griego, and Jamarcus Grant), two tech falls (Devan Turner, Hunter Willits), three major decisions (Ronnie Bresser, Kegan Calkins and Aaron Olmos) and one Over Time (Logan Meek and Zach Evans). Besides those, there were some good scrambles in many matches. Some of the matches were much closer than their final scores would indicate. Nice work, guys!

Live-stream/Watch Again: Those who couldn't make it had the opportunity to watch it live on FaceBook. In fact, if you want to watch it again, go to the Wrestling Face

Intrasquad Results

Book page, and scroll down to the video from the Intrasquad. The video is two and a half hours long, but you can scroll through as you like or watch it all again. Why not?

New Rule: Fans were introduced to a new rule referred to as "Unnecessary roughness". "Touching the face of your opponent between the brow and the chin" is now illegal. The opponent is awarded one point for each call.

Wrestling Intrasquad - Tonight: Wed Oct 24 - 7 PM

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,
Wall-sit contest

First, a look back: Last Saturday was the first Official Open Practice, followed by the Parent/Fan Tailgater. The fans saw some good scrambles and enjoyed some good tailgate food outside in the sun later.

Devan Turner encourages winner Kegan Calkins
Congratulations to Kegan Calkins for winning the wall-sit contest at the end of Open Practice. Brandon Kaylor was second to Kegan only by a few seconds. Both must have held on for a good 15+ minutes. Way to go, guys!

Tonight: The Orange & Black Intrasquad takes place in Gill Coliseum at 7pm. Coach Zalesky has paired off 17 matches for the event. Come and check out how the guys stack up against each other. For a list of the individual pairings, take a look at the article at osubeavers.com .

Live-streaming: For anyone who can't come tonight, but would like to see what's happening, OSU Wrestling's FaceBook page will have live-streaming of the Intrasquad.

Roster notes: If you would like to familiarize yourself with the guys on the team before heading to Gill, check out the latest updates on the roster. Greetings Beaver Nation,

Today we start the season off with our annual Orange and Black Dual Meet. This will be in Gill Coliseum at 7 p.m. We have 17 matches scheduled for tonight. As a staff, it will give us a good idea of what small adjustments need to be made before our first competition on Nov. 11.
We hope to see many of you in the stands, but for those who cannot attend, well be live streaming the meet on the Oregon State Wrestling Facebook page. Click the link below to see the matchups for tonights intrasquad dual. There is also a link to the live stream.

Amar Dhesi World Championship Recap
Dhesi had a tough road as he represented Canada at the World Championship this week. During the opening round, he dropped his match to Zhiwei Deng, of China, by a score of 4-1. Deng went on to take a silver medal.
Dhesi then fell short against Nick Gwiazdowski, of the United States, by a score of 7-0. Gwiazdowski went on to take a bronze medal.
Dhesi is a young competitor at the 125 kg weight class and will learn from his matches and come back stronger! He will get a few weeks of training in before leaving to wrestle at the U23 World Championships in Romania.

Benefit Dinner Report , Practice & Tailgater This Saturday!!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

A room full of folks got the wrestling season off to a great start last Saturday evening at the First Annual Orange Crush Wrestling Benefit Dinner & Auction. Everyone had a good meal and a good time talking wrestling, lots of great swag was auctioned off and money raised for the Orange Crush Wrestling Program.

Before dinner
In case you are still wondering how this benefits Oregon State Wrestling, it's simple. Orange Crush not only trains the beginning wrestlers, it is also the Regional Training Center for Olympic hopefuls. That means extra talent in the room to help train the Beavers. Just think of how ASU benefits from the Sunkist Kids. That's what we want here in Corvallis!

Alumni Sightings at the Dinner - Ron Iwasaki, Scott Lewis, Scott Sakaguchi, Michael Mangrum, Brandon Perkins, Alex Elder, Josh Parazoo, Seth Thomas, Amar Dhesi and probably others that I didn't see or don't know.

When I post this email on "The FALL"'s blogsite, I will add some photos of my own. The latest coaches' update, which you will find below my signature, also has a few photos at the end.

Things are starting to get rolling  with official start of the Wrestling Season  last Wednesday, Oct 10. The official schedule is now up on the osubeavers.com site. You can also read an article about the new schedule on the osubeavers site as well. While you are at it, don't forget to check there for the 2018-19 roster and familiarize yourself with all the new faces on the team. The bios are not all finished, but all the names have a portrait.

Open Practice and Tailgater
Keep all those faces in mind when you go to the next Open Practice, this coming Saturday, Oct 20. The football game starts at 1:00, so expect practice to start around 9:30 or 10:00. Since this will be an official practice, expect it to be a little more rigorous than the first Open Practice we had at the beginning of the month.

The Annual Parent/Fan Tailgater will take place right outside the Practice Facility immediately after Practice, about 11:00 am, just in time for lunch! There will be meat and potatoes on the grill, with sodas and water for drinks.

If you would like to participate in the tailgater, here are some guidelines to help out:
A-M - bring salads/fruit/veggies
N-Z - bring desserts/other side dish.
The staff will be providing sodas/water, chips/dip, meat and fries. Please bring your own beverages if your prefer others.

Up Next Week - Orange & Black Intrasquad
Things will get more serious next week with the Orange & Black Intrasquad Meet in Gill Coliseum on Wed. Oct. 24 at 7 pm. Admission free (or at least it always has been). Parking should be available around Gill at no charge. Watch the team face off for some challenges.

Your "FALL" Club Board has been busy working on activities for this season. Expect the membership form to be coming out soon!

Hello Beaver Nation,

I want to start off by thanking everyone that came to the Oregon State Kickoff Dinner last Saturday. The amount of support was incredible, and we hope everyone had a great time! It was such a success that we are already looking into things that will make the event even better next year. I have added some pictures from the event at the bottom of the email.
We have another open practice coming up on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m. After the open practice, we will host a tailgate before the Oregon State vs Cal football game. The tailgate will start around 11 a.m. right outside of the Dale Thomas Wrestling Facility. Please stop by to check out the team and grab a bite to eat.

Amar Dhesi World Championships
Last Saturday at the kickoff dinner, we also wished Amar Dhesi the best of luck as he heads to the World Championships. He is currently flying to Germany, where he will get acclimated and do some last-minute training before heading to Budapest, Hungary. Dhesi had a great three-week training cycle in the Oregon State wrestling room and is ready to compete. Dhesi will wrestle Oct. 20-21. If you would like more information about the World Championships, please check out the link below.

REMINDER: We have posted the 2018-2019 wrestling schedule on our website. Don't miss out on your first chance to see the team in action during the Orange & Black Dual Meet on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Gill Coliseum!

Open Practice & Other News

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

As a fan, it was fun to be in the practice room again and see the mats covered with eager-beaver wrestlers! Saturday's Open Practice was unofficial, so it was not as intense as it can get, but the guys were working and learning.

Lots of the faces were new, not surprising since we lost 6 to graduation last spring. Then some just looked different because their hair is a lot longer than it was last year!

Welcome to the newcomers: Haidon Allen, Brett Bell, Zech Bresser, JJ Dixon, Jamarcus Grant, Riley Gurr, Brandon Kaylor, Jackson McKinney, Logan Meek, Michael Murphy, Tristan Osborn, Steven Shelofsky and Hayden Still.

Returning: Colton Beisley, Ronnie Bresser, Kegan Calkins, Bob Coleman, Joseph DeMatteo, Colt Doyle, Zach Evans, Corey Griego, Drake McKee, Collbran Meeker, Connor Noonan, Aaron Olmos, Adam Rateb, Josh Reyes-Lopez, Alex Rich, Christian Robertson, Myles Terry, Devan Turner, Rodney Williams, Grant Willits and Hunter Willits,

Videos: Just to whet your appetite for wrestling a little,I have added some photos and a video or two. (Here are the videos:)
Open Practice 1 - filmed by Jack D
Open Practice 2 - filmed by Elizabeth D

Next up - be sure you are signed up to attend the big, first annual Benefit Dinner and Auction to promote the Orange Crush Wresting Club! Orange Crush supports the Oregon State Wrestling by both supporting youth wrestling and the Regional Training Center for Olympic style wrestling. The Dinner takes place next weekend, Sat. Oct 13 at the Fairgrounds. For more information, check the website for the event.

Grant and Hunter Willits' dad, Rick Willits, is donating one of his beautiful pewter feather sculptures for the auction.

Rick also shared with me that he had seen rankings at Flowrestling that "Oregon State has 3 preseason ranked wrestlers starting with  Ronnie Bresser 4th at 125lbs. Hunter Willits 19th at 157, and Corey Griego 13th at 197."  Thanks, Rick!

Remember to check Twitter for updates by Oregon State Wrestling's Sports Info guy, Evan Hooper. You'll find things like images of the new Beaver singlets for this year, and the fact that Devan Turner celebrated a Birthday recently. Happy Birthday, Devan!

Don't forget, the next Open Practice and Parent/Fan Tailgater will be the following week, Sat. Oct 20

Open Practice This Saturday!!

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,

The moment you've all been anxiously awaiting since the final  match at the NCAA's last winter is almost here! To get your first peek at the 2018-19 Oregon State Wrestling team, be in the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room this Saturday, October 6 at 3:00!

This Saturday's practice will be run by the student athletes since it will be an unofficial practice. The official start of wrestling season, by NCAA dictates, is October 10, next week.

The start of an Open Practice is calculated on the time of the OSU football game kickoff. Practice begins three hours before kickoff, and lasts approximately one and a half hours. Those going to the game have plenty of time to watch the practice and then get to their seat in Reser Stadium, literally across the street from the Sports Performance Center.

It's always fun to pick out the new faces at practice. Hopefully the coaches will have the guys write their names on the back of their t-shirts so we can learn who they are! Hint, hint....

Coming up next week, another important event in wrestling - the benefit dinner and auction on Sat. Oct 13. You can read all about the details in the latest message from the Coaches' Corner which you can find pasted below my signature at the bottom of this email. Don't miss out on the fun!

In fact, there is something coming up each week for the next five weeks. On Saturday October 20, the first Official Open Practice will be immediately followed by the Parent/Fan Tailgater. We'll have to wait for the football kick-off time to be arranged before we'll know what time that will be.

On October 24, Wednesday evening at 7:00, the Black & Orange Intrasquad meet will be held in Gill Coliseum.

The final event of the five week span will be another Open Practice on the first Saturday of November - Nov. 3.

After that, we are on into the season of meets and tournaments. First of those is the Mike Clock Open in Forest  Grove at Pacific University on Nov 11, a Sunday. The finalized schedule should be out within a week or two, once the basketball schedules and Pac-12 television have settled their dates and times.

If you have any news of any of the former wrestlers that you would like to have passed along, send it to me and I will be sure to include it in my email. Thank you!

OSU Wrestling Coaching Staff

Welcome Wrestling Parents!

Oregon State Wrestling Parents,

Depending on whether or not this is the first year your son is on the OSU Wrestling team, on behalf of "The FALL" Board and all of "The FALL" Fan Club, welcome to/back to the Oregon State Wrestling Family!

We have a few things to go over with you.

Email As a courtesy to parents, I have placed you on the email list for updates on the happenings of "The FALL" Fan Club and plans/results of scheduled meets and activities of the team.

If you would rather receive these emails at a different email address, maybe home instead of work, for example, please let me know. I can add as many email addresses as you would like.

So if this is going just to one parent's email, and another would also like to be on the update list, please send me the name and email address. Or, have them send me an email, that way I would have the email address that they wanted on the list.  Also, if you do not wish to receive these emails, simply let me know and you will be "unsubscribed".

If you have other relatives or friends who might wish to receive these updates, either have them contact me by email, or give me their address. I will check with them to make certain they want to be on the list.

If you would like to see what sort of email is sent, you can read past messages. They are posted on "The FALL's  web blog: http://osuwrestlingfall.blogspot.com/

One way to ensure receiving any or all of these emails would be to add these addresses to your email address book:

Activities - The first activities planned are the Open Practice sessions that take place on Football Home Game Days. Practice takes place in the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room upstairs in the Sports Performance Center next to Gill Coliseum. There are a few bleachers located in the back corner of the room.

The first activity will be an Unofficial Open Practice this Saturday, October 6, at 3:00 pm. Football kick-off is scheduled for 6:00. Since the official NCAA wrestling season does not start until October 10, official practices do not start until then. However, the guys are free to get started on their training earlier. Unofficial practices are led by the student athletes themselves.

A week later, Saturday, October 13, 5:30 pm will be a benefit dinner and auction for the Orange Crush Wrestling Club and Regional Training center. For more information, see the invitation from the Coaches. It is pasted down below my signature at the bottom of this email.

The next week, an Official Open Practice will be held Saturday Oct. 20. Start time will be about 3 hours before football kick-off, which has not yet been determined.  The Parent/Fan Tailgater will be held immediately after the Open Practice. Practice lasts about 1.5 hours. The Tailgater will start right after Practice, and will be set up outside the wrestling entrance to the Sports Performance Center. More information about the tailgater will be coming out soon.

October 24, Wednesday, the Orange & Black Intrasquad meet will be held in Gill Coliseum at 7:00 pm. Head Coach Jim Zalesky will select pairings between team members and has said more than 10 matches will be held.

One more Open Practice will take place on Saturday, November 3 before regular season meets begin. Start time has yet to be determined. Again - it will be 3 or 3 1/2 hours before football kick-off.

"The FALL" Fan Club - "The FALL" is the official Fan Club of Oregon State Wrestling. While we hope that you will want to join, you are under no obligation to do so. When the letter of invitation and the application form have been updated you will receive them by email.

Parent Reps - Our Parent Reps on the FALL Board, Ken & Andrea Tobin, retired last spring with the graduation of their son. We are currently looking for new Parent Reps. We'd love to hear from any interested parents!

Meanwhile, if you have any questions about any of this, please feel free to contact me by email at any time. I usually check email in the evenings.

Thank you! Go Beavs!
