Zoom recap - Tues Jan 19 at 7pm

Beaver Wrestling Supporters,

Zoom recap on Tues Jan 19 at 7pm with Coach Mike Kosoy, Devan Turner & J.J. Dixon

Meeting Registration - Zoom

Thanks to my dad (Ron Iwasaki) for the following recap.

OSU 23, Cal Poly 17

125    After a slow start - Brandon Kaylor was taken down with a single leg, escaped and had his own TD.  He started up in the 2nd period, rode well and scored a 2pt Near Fall/Predicament.  BK easily won 10-6, but should have put more pressure on his opponent in the 3rd period.

133    Devan turned it on in the 3rd period and dominated his true freshman opponent, 10-2.

141    Grant gave us his typical entertaining performance but the initial scramble ended up with a CP TD.  After that episode Grant was able to reverse his opponent into a cradle but w/o any points, the first period ending 2-2.  He started down the second… quickly escaped but the period ended 3-2.  In the third period Grant got quickly reversed; escaped - then he fashioned a mysterious step through move that took his opponent to his back for TD + NF points.  However this wasn't a lock-down move and the match ended with both on their feet w/ Grant dominating 12-5 and another almost TD at the buzzer.  His opponent transferred from Fresno State.

149    Corvallis' Crescent Valley grad and Red Shirt Freshman Legend Lamer tech falled Riley Gurr 16-0 with a little less than 30 seconds left in the first.  After the take down Legend used multiple wrist locks and arm bars to turn and tilt Riley at will.

157    This weight featured the second appearance of brothers for both O.S. and Poly.  Hunter Willits in the first grabbed and then elevated Brawley Lamer's leg for 2 TD.  Hunter started down in the second, Brawley tried to put in a leg which Hunter elevated over his head for an escape.   In the last period Hunter started on top but quickly cut him loose.  Then Hunter got a takedown and kept Brawley down on the mat riding high on the upper body...duplicating Devan's winning score of 10-2.

165    Mateo Olmos started slow as the first ended 0-0.  In the final two periods Mateo and his opponent traded TD/escapes and ended 4-4 but in overtime Mateo prevailed 6-4.  As a side note, his opponent, Adam Kemp, also a former Fresno State wrestler is the son of three-time NCAA Champ Wisconsin great Lee Kemp.

174    Colton Beisley was quickly taken down, got an escape then his opponent bull-rushed him to his back.  There was no discernable fighting off his back and a fall was called in a little over a minute.

184    Ryan Reyes had a nice front trip for a TD in the first.  He ultimately won 4-2.

197    J.J. Dixon had his hands full with possibly the tallest wrestler any of us has seen in 6-ft, 7-in freshman Trevor Tinker.  Long limbs by his opponent invited both getting and being in cradle situations which J.J. initially converted a double leg into a cradle but no back points.  I guess you'd have to really elevate yourself over your opponent and anyway this exchange ended literally with an exchange (reversal).  Score ended 2-2.  In the 2nd, Trevor escaped then got ankle picked.  Later J.J. was riding too high and was reversed.  In the final period starting down and behind 4-5, J.J. reversed to win 6-5.

HWT    Hayden Still pushed around but was taken down and then to his back before being stuck at 2:27.
