Oregon State Wrestling Fans,
The Oregon State Beavers open their conference season at home after a long early season on the road. This Monday evening - 7:00 - the Beavers host the Stanford Cardinal in Gill Coliseum. And - they will do it on a brand new wrestling mat!
For all the "away" fans, the meet will be televised on the Pac-12 network.
Injuries seem to have plagued the team this year, and finding the right line-up has been a challenge. It seems that another line-up change may be in the works for Monday night. Check it out in the recent article at osubeavers.com.
Stanford on the other hand appears to be on a roll. On Saturday they crushed Boise State 32-3. They previously upset Arizona State, another Pac-12 team.
A Social for fans will be held in Reser Stadium
following the meet. This time I believe it will be in the Loge, on the
second level. If I got that wrong, it will be in the Club on the third
level.
The menu for the Social will be an assortment of
cookies with coffee and tea. The cost of catering has increased
tremendously in the last two years with the new caterer. In order to
make Club finances stable, the Board has decided some of the Socials
will have to be simpler. Feel free to address this with any of the Board
members, myself included. We are interested in your input!
The Social is free for all FALL Club Members. Be sure to bring your ID badge to show at the door of the Social for entry! Badges were mailed at the beginning of the season.
Lapel pins for FALL Club members are also here now,
ready for distribution. Members, stop by the table in the lobby of Gill
before the meet or at the entry to the Social to ask for your pins.
Please pick them up - show your support for Oregon State Wrestling - and
save us the cost of mailing.
Non-club members can purchase the pins for $5 each.
We also have pins from the previous four years. The original pin design
is now only available by purchasing a complete set. (Probably at a
Silent Auction.) T-shirts will be for sale as well.
Not too late to sign up for the FALL Fan Club for this season. We have three more Socials on the schedule, including this one. For on-line registration: https://squareup.com/store/the-fall-fanclub/
Other Club business that we will be addressing at the Social:
- Do you want to ride a bus to the Pac-12's in Palo
Alto, CA on Feb 26. The bus would leave Corvallis on Feb 25 and return
on Feb 27. We need to decide very soon on whether or not there is enough
interest to work on this project.
- Are you going to the NCAA's? Need tickets? Talk to Coach Roberts.
Need hotel rooms? We will have a flier available for you to pick up the information.
Last, but not least, a group of Beaver wrestlers participated in the California Collegiate in San Fransisco
yesterday. TrackWrestling did not appear to cover the event so I don't
have their neat results, but the four wrestlers who were there had some
success.
At 141 - Connor Noonan lost his first match but then won four in a row by fall to take third place. Congratulations, Connor!
At 165 - Dracius McKee won his first by major, ultimately ending in fourth place. Congratulations!
At 184 - Adam Rateb won two matches in the consolation round, missing his chance at the 3rd/4th place match by one win.
At 285 - David Henry took second place,
narrowly missing his third championship in open tournaments.
Unfortunately, he lost in the finals by injury default. Hope it was not
serious! Congratulations on the second place, Dave!
For all the details, you can check the brackets here for the California Collegiate.
For those who like stats, FALL Club member Craig Scharer likes to collect the results for Beavers at the Open tournaments. He has generously shared his work. If you are interested, you can find it at this link to his spreadsheet. Thanks, Craig!
Mondays are Mondays, but hope to see many of you at Gill Coliseum to support the Beavers!
Go Beavs!
