Joey Palmer to Join Beavers at NCAA's & More News!

Only a week to go before the final event of the season for wrestling, the NCAA Division I Championships! Wrestling takes place over three exciting days, beginning Thursday, March 17 and concluding on Saturday March 19 in New York City!

The at-large berths were announced yesterday, and OSU's 133 Joey Palmer received one of the selected wild cards! So Joey will be joining his teammates, Ronnie Bresser (listed as Ronnie Rios in the paperwork), Joey Delgado, Seth Thomas, Corey Griego and Amarveer Dhesi in their quest for the top of the podium in Madison Square Garden. The
entire list of NCAA entrants has been posted.

T
oday the brackets were released as well.

In case you haven't been checking the OSU Beavers site, Brooks Hatch has written several articles in the past few days. The links for each can be found on the
Archives page. An article from March 1 on Beaver rankings, one from March 8 on Joey Palmer's entry to the NCAA's and one from today on the seeds in the brackets can be found on that Archive page.

The OSU student newspaper, "The Barometer" carried a story last week - an interview with Head Coach Jim Zalesky on the season and looking ahead to the NCAA's. Thank you to Craig Scharer, FALL Board member for sharing that article with me. Craig also sent me the brackets and several of the other links here, thanks for keeping me up to speed!

For those who will be at the NCAA's back in NYC, if you like art, you will find a display at Madison Square Garden:

National Wrestling Hall of Fame bringing Ostrovsky's wrestling artwork to NCAA Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - The National Wrestling Hall of Fame is excited to announce that it will showcase works by acclaimed artist Nancy Ostrovsky at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The paintings will be displayed in exhibits on the sixth floor concourse and the eighth floor concourse during the three days of competition.

"Each year at the NCAAs we strive to have an exhibit that not only highlights our great sport, but inspires fans," said NWHOF Executive Director Lee Roy Smith. "We are fans of Nancy Ostrovsky, and having the NCAAs in New York City provided us with the perfect opportunity to share her work."

Her collection of paintings features some of the most famous and recognized names in wrestling including NWHOF Distinguished Members Bruce Baumgartner, Bobby Douglas, Dan Gable, Gene Mills, Tricia Saunders, Dave Schultz, John Smith, and Pat Smith.

"I am honored to exhibit my paintings for the wrestling community," said Ostrovsky, whose preferred footwear while working is typically wrestling shoes. "I did my first wrestling painting in 1992 and there is now a wide-ranging body of work."

Ostrovsky has collaborated for 25 years with former wrestler Paul Widerman to create a series of paintings featuring wrestling. Widerman was a two-time New York state wrestling champion and co-captain at Harvard University who after competing internationally returned as an assistant coach at Harvard. Utilizing information on wrestlers and techniques provided by Widerman, Ostrovsky has displayed an incredible ability to interpret the energy, imagery and emotion of the sport.

"Mostly, I have drawn and painted the human form with a focus on music and jazz. There is a beauty and honesty in wrestling and jazz that I try to capture," said Ostrovsky. "The common denominator is human beings."

Born in North Africa and raised in various countries in Asia, Ostrovsky has exhibited in Germany, New York, Boston and California. She has been called "one of the pioneers of performance painting," and for more than 36 years has done "Painting to Music," a live performance with musicians. Ostrovsky creates highly original and innovative works using the immediacy of the musicians combined with the music and the environment of a live audience.

"Perhaps my experience with Painting to Music has helped me to better understand, and capture, the intensity and focus it takes to be a wrestler," said Ostrovsky.

Some of Ostrovsky's wrestling paintings can be viewed and reproductions are available for purchase at www.theartofwrestling.com.

National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum
America's shrine to the sport of wrestling, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum was founded as a nonprofit organization in 1976 to honor the sport of wrestling, preserve its history, recognize extraordinary individual achievements, and inspire future generations. With museums in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Waterloo, Iowa, the Hall of Fame has the largest collection of wrestling artifacts and memorabilia in the world including the Hall of Honors in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where wrestling legends are enshrined at the national, regional, and state level. The rich heritage and diversity of the sport will be highlighted throughout the newly-renovated museum. There is also a library featuring historical documents and books on the sport as well as a theater. The Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is currently closed to visitors while undergoing an entire interior renovation. It is scheduled to re-open on June 3-4, 2016, just in time to celebrate its 40th anniversary at the annual Honors Weekend induction ceremonies.

Thank you to Ron Iwasaki, FALL Club member for passing along that article about the art display!

A last look back to the Pac-12 team of the Century: a photo of the guys who were honored at the recent Pac-12's at ASU has been posted on the web.

A bit of sad news to share - On behalf of the FALL Board and the entire FALL Fan Club, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to FALL Club member Don Hoskins, whose dear wife Julie died suddenly on February 25. A memorial service will be held later this summer. Don, you and Julie are in the thoughts and prayers of us all.

That's it for now. On to New York City!

Go Beavs!!
