Boxer Results, Pac-12 Hotel & Other News

It's a relatively quiet week in Oregon State Wrestling news, as the Beavers do not have any meets this week. There are a few items to bring to your attention.

A group of wrestlers will likely be participating in the CCC Open Tournament this Sunday, Jan. 24. The tournament will be held in Oregon City at Clackamas Community College, Randall Hall, 19600 Mollala Ave., Oregon City, OR 97045.
Google Map - for anyone needing directions. Live stats will be available through TrackWrestling. Search on Clackamas Open when you are at TrackWrestling.

News from last Sunday, one Beaver did enter the Boxer Open in Forest Grove. Joseph DeMatteo wrestled at 157. His results, from TrackWrestling:

I believe this is the best DeMatteo has done so far in tournaments. A walk-on last year, it's always great to see improvement. Way to go, Joseph! An observation - Joseph wrestled one athlete from Washington State University and one from University of Washington. Both UW and WSU have Club teams now, a step toward reinstating wrestling. More power to them! It would be great to have a real (not just the 6 we have now) Pac-12 again in wrestling!!

For those making plans to attend the Pac-12's at host ASU, "The FALL" has reserved a block of rooms at a hotel near the ASU campus. This flier will give you all the info you need for making a reservation there. A big Thank You to Club member Gerry Mahoney for recommending this hotel to the Board!

Another reminder about the Pledge For Pins fund drive. This is a pledge for all the pins that the team gets this season. It includes all tournaments and all team members. The money goes to support the wrestling program. Every dollar helps!

One of the fund raising efforts of "The FALL" is our Silent Auction at Socials and the Banquet. We have received a donation of one of those unique, don't want to miss out items from Club member John Kowalewski. It is a beautiful plaque, the artwork was all done by John. You can see a picture of it here.

I asked John for some information on the piece. Here is his statement:

This plaque was made to raise money to support the Beaver Wrestling Program.
The plaque is made of Myrtlewood purchased on the Oregon Coast.
The Beaver head is solid bronze and the pictures are of the 2015 Pac 12 Championship team and coaches with autographs by the coaches.

The plaque will be up for auction most likely at the banquet at the end of the season. So be thinking of a place where you'd like to see this hanging in your trophy case, den or office. Then make sure you are there to bid! Many thanks, John!

Even though the Beavers haven't been wrestling this week, the people who calculate the rankings have been working. As a team, the Beavers edged up a bit and a few more individuals were included. Oregon State has articles for both the team rankings and individual rankings.

Best of luck to all the Beavers who will be at the Clackamas Open!

Go Beavs!!
