Wrestling News This Week & Scouting Michigan Schools

Winter term has begun and wrestling is in full gear. The Beavers have two meets this week; both against very good teams back in Michigan.

But before we look ahead to this week, we have to take note of one news item from last week. OSU's 125 lb'er, Ronnie Bresser III won the Pac-12's Wrestler of the Week Award for his performance at the Midlands Tournament in Evansville, Illinois. Congratulations, Ronnie! This is the first time the Pac-12 has awarded a "Wrestler of the Week" honor, and Ronnie was the one to win it.

Thursday, Jan. 7, the Beavers face the University of Michigan Wolverines in the Cliff Keen Arena at 7 pm Eastern ST, or 4 pm Pacific. This meeting of the Beavers and the Wolverines will be the first annual Joe Wells Classic, honoring Joe Wells, who was Head Coach at Oregon State and an Assistant Coach at Michigan. You can read two articles about Joe at USA Wrestling.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Beavers head to Mt Pleasant, Michigan, for a meet with the Central Michigan Chippewas at 2pm, Eastern, 11 am Pacific. the meet will be held at the McGuirk Arena.  You can read about Central Michigan at their site:

The Central Michigan meet will be broadcast live on ESPN3 .

The Beavers are on the road this week, but next week they return to Gill for a meet with Wyoming at noon on Saturday, Jan. 16. "The FALL" will be hosting a Social after the meet in Reser Stadium in the Loge. Admission is free to FALL club members and $5/person for non-members.
