Session III - Wipe Out

Oregon State Wrestling Fans,
Coach Ian Miller calls instructions from the side.

After all the headway made by the team yesterday, ending Thursday in 12th place, the Beaver's score suddenly went into a free fall. Friday morning at the NCAA's can be brutal and today unfortunately was no exception.

Oregon State had no wins in Session III, ending in 21st, tied with Virginia with 13.5 points. Action started today with mixed mats. The Championship matches played out on the four mats in the middle. The consolation matches took place on the four mats on the edges.

The first Beaver out on the mats was Ronnie Bresser at 125. Ronnie battled a long, very close match, coming down to the second overtime tiebreaker before giving up the loss.

The second Beaver was Grant Willits at 141 in a Consolation match. Grant lost this match, eliminating him from the tournament.

The third Beaver to enter the mats this morning was Amar Dhesi at 285. The result was the same, another loss.

Now, the good news is that both Bresser and Dhesi still get another shot at the action. They were in the Championship bracket, so their losses dropped them into the Consolation Brackets. A win and they will have another chance to wrestle for at least third place. They need to win one more match to reach All-American status. A loss tonight and they will be eliminated.
