Beavers Clip Wings of Air Force

Oregon State shut out the Air Force Falcons this evening with a 36-0 score. Way to go, Beavers!

As is often the case in wrestling, the score doesn't always tell the whole story. While the Beavers won all ten matches, the Falcons put up a lot of fight and didn't go easily.

Tonight the action began with the 197 weight class. Cody Crawford led the entire match, but it was close and kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the buzzer sounded with Crawford getting the 8-5 decision. Amar Dhesi's match at 285 was never in doubt. Dhesi won by major, 18-6.

After heavyweight, the matches went back to the start of the weight class order - 125. Ronnie Bresser's match was tight, like a chess match. Bresser won 4-1. Joey Palmer's match was a flurry of activity, winning the 133 match by major, 14-4.

Jack Hathaway had a tough match at 141 with Dylan Hyder who came with his own fan club - Hyder is from Washington state. Another close match, Hathaway pulled it out in the end with a 5-3 decision. Next up, Joey Delgado at 149. Period one ended 2-1, but Delgado kept working and won a 6-3 decision.

At 157, Abraham Rodriquez fought off several takedown  attempts early. Period one ended with a tie 5-5, Abe had riding time, though. Period two found Rodriquez down 8-9, but he fought back to take the decision 12-10. Senior Seth Thomas led the 165 match all the way, but ended it with a fall in the third period. Way to go, Seth!

The 174 pound match was one of the closest. The first period tied 0-0, then the two wrestlers exchanged escape points in the 2nd and 3rd periods, but Tyler Chay managed the takedown in the final seconds to win 3-1. The final match of the evening came at 184 where Corey Griego wore down his opponent from a 2-0 first period score (plus lots of riding time) to an ultimate major, 10-2. Final score: 36-0.

Congratulations to the entire Beaver team!! The Beavs held an autograph session for their fans at the conclusion of the meet.
