If you weren't there last night when the
Beavers dismantled the Oklahoma Sooners, you missed a good, old
fashioned barn burner! The crowd and the wrestlers alike revelled in the
21-12 victory as the Beavers took 6 of the ten matches from the #7
ranked Sooners!
Congratulations to all match winners:
125 -Ronnie Bresser
141 - Jack Hathaway
157 - Abraham Rodriquez
184 - Corey Griego
197 - Cody Crawford
285 - Amar Dhesi
The Beavers had the crowd on their feet often, even in the matches they
lost, fighting hard. None of the Beavers gave up any bonus points,
Hathaway and Griego picked up bonus points - Hathaway with a fall that electrified the crowd, and Griego grinding out a major!
Bresser - #7- again started things off at 125 winning a decision over his opponent - Ryan Millhoff- ranked right below him at #8. Joey Palmer
actually led 5-4 at the end of the first period in his match with #4
Cody Brewer, who is a past Nat'l Champ. Brewer went on to win, but Joey
held him to a decision.
Hathaway was behind 0-4 at the end of the first, having
gotten caught and nearly choked out. He was looking fairly dazed as he
started the 2nd period but moments later he had the crowd celebrating
his fall! Joey Delgado had a tough but close match, losing by decision. Rodriquez
started out slowly, with a 0-0 score at the end of one, then building
his lead to 5-2 at the end, making the score Beavs 12, Sooners 6.
Seth Thomas faced #13 Clark Glass, and kept the score close, but couldn't quite get a takedown, dropping the match 1-3. Tyler Chay kept the score tight through the first two periods, but dropped a 2-8 decision. The score was tied again, 12-12.
Corey Griego's match was low scoring, 2-0, through the
first 2 periods plus massive amounts of riding time, but racked up
enough back points in the third period to get the major, OSU 16 Sooners
12.
Cody Crawford's 197 match was another nail biter, 1-0
at the end of two, but kept battling away until the 4-2 decision gave
the Beavers an unstoppable score of 19-12! Amar Dhesi - #10 - finished
out the evening with a score that looks closer than it seemed,
defeating #15 Brad Larson 8-6. Final Score: Beavs 21 Sooners 12. Way to
go Beavers!!
